Hi, this is my first time posting here! Thanks for the mods, they make the game awesome.

I've been playing with the Careers mod for a month or more without issue. Yesterday I was doing a big build and didn't finish, but the game was doing just fine throughout the build and I was switching back and forth between all three modes throughout. When I logged in today, the game crashed every time I opened build/buy modes. It would switch to the mode for maybe a second, then the screen would go black and kick me to the desktop.

I did some troubleshooting by emptying my downloads folder - I only have store content and it hasn't caused an issue for me before, but worth checking - but the problem still happened. Then I put the downloads back and emptied my mods folder and the game was fine. I narrowed it down to the base Careers mod. Everything else is fine when the game is running.

I figured the mod somehow got corrupted, so redownloaded from the site and unzipped to my packages without any other mods in there to confuse the issue and it still crashed upon opening build/buy.

I can continue playing for a while without it while waiting for troubleshooting help, but it's kind of central to a lot of my gameplay at the moment. Any idea what's going on?

Hmm, actually, I finally thought to test it on a new town and there were no problems. I have a few backup saves (just as many as Saver automatically creates for me), so I went back in time to see if they were problematic as well. I was on save #4 of 4. Save #3 had the same issue, but save #2 (1 hour before my final save) had no issues. It's a bummer because I got a lot built in an hour, but I can rebuild and no gameplay was lost.

Any idea what happened and how I can avoid this in the future?

Do you have any custom careers / afterschool activities / skill books / degrees? Remove any other packages for Careers. It crashes with only the base mod in?

Yes, I removed every single mod and piece of CC except the base Career mod, and it crashes upon entering build/buy mode only in those two saves, but not in a new town I tested in and not an older save of the same game.

Woops, I missed this. Yes, I had one custom part-time career active for a teenager at the theater. But that is true for the older saves as well and there's no issue.

I would try without that custom career and see if there's a difference. Have you messed around with any rabbit holes that may be different in the other saves that don't crash?

I haven't played with that, when I found the okay save I just started rebuilding.

By this, I meant in the game a teen had a job at the theater which is one of the Nraas tones. But I removed that module from the folder when testing and there was still an issue. Should I have tried having him quit the job first? Also, regardless it still was crashing with the base mod but not with the other modules in one save and not in another.

Yes, you always want to make sure no one is using the careers before ripping them out but overall a peculiar issue as I've never seen anyone reporting crashing with the mod. Afraid I don't have any other suggestions as a result but it shouldn't be a common thing. Let me know if it starts again.

Okay, will do. The only other thing I could think was that Saver sometimes prompts for a save while I'm in build/buy, which isn't possible without the mod. I worried that had somehow corrupted something and I've been taking care to go back to live mode before saving just in case. But if you've never heard of it before, whatever it was will hopefully not happen again!

That's actually a useful feature of saver. It should be perfectly fine to save while in build/buy with it. I suspect you got some gremlins in that save somehow that Careers didn't like. Good thing you are using saver as regular saves are a must with this game.
