Bartenders and ages

Post by JohnL83 » September 15th, 2020, 9:55 am

Okay, not a huge deal, but all my towns bartenders are elders. I don't want to age discriminate, but it just seems strange that at all 3 places in town, from the disco club to the dive bar are elders wearing all manner of odd outfits. The regular bars I don't mind about the age and the outfits I fixed easily enough. What I'd like to see are younger sims working the disco club as it is more of a sexy atmosphere and I'd like them to be attractive younger sims. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to fix it on a lot by lot level. I don't get register options when I click those lots. And when I tried to do this from the bar itself I lost my sim and no one was manning the bar. Not sure what I did wrong there.

Also, I double checked my mixologist settings at the town level and it's set to only allow adults and young adults, so why am I getting so many elders at bars? And I'd like to add that I do not use townies for any of those types of jobs.

Register doesn't have any lot options (I don't think...). Not understanding what you mean by you lost your sim -- you mean the Role Sim you unassigned or your actively being played one?. Register on the bar object should allow you to first unassign the sim currently assigned to it, then manually assign a new one from those who seem to be available for such an assignment, if there are any. The mod's settings should allow the spawning of new sims to take up any objects left unassigned. This is what the mod calls "immigration," but it's really just the spawning of a new homeless NPC sim when required.

Were these sims perhaps adults at some point recently and they merely aged up along the way? And were/are they really elders or just gradually starting to look older as a result of Consort's Age mod, if you use that?

I don't use Consort's mod. (not even sure what that is) As far as I know they have been elders for some time. Yes real elders walking stooping posture, some with canes..etc. I also know for sure they are elders because I took some of them to CAS so I could give them better clothing. I had a few of them wearing ballgowns and magician outfits.
It's possible that they could have aged up from adults at some point, but shouldn't the game replace them with younger sims if I have it set to only be adults and young adults?
I also have the game set to retire all my sims once they are adults. There are a few exceptions where I manually keep elders at their jobs like; school teachers, politicians, and those jobs that generally have retirement-age people still working them. But I like most of my elderly sims to be free to be grandparents and enjoy the last years of their life. Of course my workaholic and ambitious sims keep working until they meet Grim because that's who they are.

Sims go to the bars rather infrequently in my games. Generally it is where I do bachelor parties and now and then sims will go just to dance, but with most of them are learning LW and skills and raising babies and they don't have the time.

Much like real life I did 90% of my club and bar hopping in my 20's and since then it's dropped to 0% as I hit that milestone age this year where I couldn't even celebrate being 50 in May because the world has gone insane. :P Plus are bars/clubs even open in the US yet?

There's a Tim Conway (classic Carol Burnett Show) sketch in there someplace with these bartenders.

I've never had an elder Role Sim, even though I really wanted a few at some point but could just never find a way to make that work. Anyway, where is it exactly that you are specifying these age restrictions? It can't be in SP, because it's Register that governs Role Sim assignments.

I will get back to you on the second part of this as I need to go into each one to be sure where I'm seeing what.

But in regards to Carol Burnett, I was so happy to see her old shows available on Amazon Prime! But then, much to my disappointment, I found they are incomplete shows with some of the artists and guest stars edited out of the show. I just hate that they edit old shows like this! I mean, I kind of get the whole copyright thing, but one would think those artists would love to have their music available to whole new audiences, which in turn would likely lead to sales of their music. I once bought season 1 of WKRP in Cincinnati and it was a real let-down as some of the original music was removed, which actually ruined many of the jokes and themes from the episodes. It's idiotic! Thus I never finished buying further seasons, even though I loved that show.

What was so great about Burnett's show and even shows like Jim Henson's, The Muppet Show, is that I can remember watching them all as a very young boy and it was something that I could laugh at as a kid and then again as an adult but in a whole new way. :P

Igazor - Okay, what I have is this: Register>Mixologists>Valid Ages> 2 > Young Adult and Adult.
The "pool size" is set at default 1 (is this fine or should it be more?)

The bar that I use in clubs that I built is the professional bar and the EA venues are whatever default bar EA uses.

There is no pool size for Role Sims, that's for Service Sims. Are you certain the path isn't NRaas > Register > Service > Mixologists > etc.? I believe you are adjusting the allowable age stages and pool sizes for the mixologist Service Sims. These are the sims whom you can call to your sims' house to run a bar at a party, not the ones assigned to role giving objects around town. They aren't the same critters.

That path is correct. I toggled between this post and the game to post that. But I did just realize that I was under "service" not "role". So it's City Hall>Nraas>Register>Service>Mixologists> Then there is a list that shows: Cost-Is Recurring-Pool Size-Valid Ages

"Global Roles" gives me nothing but paparazzi options.

Right, so what I am saying is that if there is a way to control the allowable age stages of Role Sims, this isn't it. Mixologists are not Global Role Sims either, those have no object assignments. Examples of Globals (there aren't many) are the Paparazzi, the Uni Mascot, the WA Special Merchant, and (I think) the Science Nerd.

So basically we can't control the ages other than to use Register to hire a new sim individually at the bar? I went into the game again and there was someone new working the bar that I had no one at previously back when I'd tried to replace the grandpa bartender. So the game fixed this.
The new sim is a YA, I decided not to worry about the others unless I can figure out what I did wrong the first time when trying to switch out the other older sims. I guess it doesn't really matter that much anyway. Thanks for your help, as always. :)
