Status Updates [2020 Edition]

Post by Chain_Reaction » March 1st, 2020, 7:10 pm

Hello,

In an effort to filter out stale text related to our move, this is a fresh thread for recent updates. A few refreshers...
  • I am still working on addressing site issues and as such modding has been suspended. There remains plans to return to modding at some point. My time is more limited than it was a few years ago so I am unable to dedicate as much time to here as I did in the past. Nevertheless things are still progressing and NRaas remains very much active.
  • Users are encouraged to post suggestions for our current mod suite and the site as well as issues with our mods or the site to be added to my list to resolve when I have time. As a reminder repeatedly asking about something pushes it further down my list.
  • I have no plans to offer older patch versions of the mods. Do not ask for them.
  • We are still working on fixing up documentation pages and many other pages with old information or broken code. Unfortunately the volume of pages makes it a slow process.
  • Release notes are still on the list to be restored and are now a priority having stabilized the cache system and tested it here for the past couple months.
  • Translations are still unavailable. If you'd like to contribute a translation, please upload the Strings_<language>.txt file (zip them up if you're doing multiple mods) properly labeled for which mod they are for to the Files tab in our file manager (click Upload in the header). These will be held until modding resumes but your contribution is appreciated.
  • The mod updater has been discontinued and will no longer function. Having looked into this I am unsure if it will return due to how our files are hosted now. I will keep it on the list to see what I can do in the future however.
I send thanks to those of you who have been generous with your patience and feedback over the past year. Keep popping back in for future updates.

Thanks.

Status Updates [2020 Edition]

Post by Chain_Reaction » March 1st, 2020, 7:52 pm

Just completed a code push, the following magically changed:
  • Small fixes to the sites mobile layout for polish.
  • Mod pages are now mobile friendly.
  • Mobile friendly update history pages.
  • Show a message when page saving fails due to internal server errors.
  • The mod page background will now stretch when longer mod descriptions are entered.
  • Initial avatars now show when posting and navigating through threads.
  • Fixed broken avatars for users who don't have avatars on the activity stream. This will now show the new inital avatars.
  • Usernames on the activity stream now show the user info popups and link to user profiles.
  • You can now expand/collapse full post text from within the activity stream.
  • Forum search results now use the new condensed layout.
  • Removed line separation from interaction category titles to make things look more cohesive.
  • Removed duplication from interaction anchors for cleaner linking.
  • Wiki/docs/faq search has finally been moved out of beta with a few changes/fixes for those that had used it prior. There are still a few issues that will be addressed in time.
    • The search feature was created with a lot of hard work. It can figure out things like misspelled keywords and still show you what you were looking for (after it has a few months of learning). It also learns what results users click most when searching for things and shows them higher up in the results for future searches of that keyword.
  • Added the option to search the wiki/docs via the header search box (under the cog icon).
  • The Help page now provides the same split search box as the header with more content planned for it in the future. It's still better than an error message, no?
  • The Table of Contents on long pages has been fixed and will now show each section rather than just the roots. Arrows were added to show depth. Per user feedback I understand this isn't the clearest way to convey hierarchy and I plan to try new ways when I get time.
  • Documentation pages and FAQ pages related to mods now have a condensed mod header that provides a description of the mod, access to the links for it's other related pages and a download button.
  • All pages now have a page search at the top right which lets you find things quickly.
    • This was also a lot of work to pull off.
    • Allows you to enter a keyword and it will highlight any results. You can jump between results using the arrow in the box at the top.
    • If you click the cog next to the pages search box, there's an option to hide all articles that don't contain your keywords.
    • Revolutionary! Shiny! Ooh-ahh! You can now filter documentation pages by base mod or module. Use the options under the cog to only show interactions that come with the chosen module. Unfortunately only one can be selected at a time for now. The browser may appear to freeze on larger interaction pages such as StoryProgression. It has a lot of text to search through so give it a few seconds. Please note while you can also use the keyword search with this functionality, it will cause the jump arrows to have odd behavior. This is a whole new headache to resolve but I will if I get time.
As always if things look off or don't function as you think they should give Cloudflare time to update. There's probably more that I forgot to note as I have been working on these things for 5 months. Plenty more in the works. I'll see you all with another update when they are ready. :)

Status Updates [2020 Edition]

More fixes:
  • Woohooer interactions page now has all interactions rather than 50%. Groundbreaking.
  • PocketProtector has a mod page now.
  • Page/article titles can now be edited again.
    • The code is so excited about this it saves every time you click the page. This will be addressed.
  • Display an error message when page title editing fails.
  • The Table of Contents should appear on more pages.
Stuff I broke March 1 but have fixed again:
  • Selective text quoting in posts should work again.
  • A good chunk of FAQ pages went into hiding but they have been lured back out with cookies.
  • Pages can be edited again. Wow.
  • Some anchors in the Table of Contents didn't work. A few of these may still be problematic and are being addressed.

Status Updates [2020 Edition]

Post by Chain_Reaction » August 28th, 2020, 4:44 am

Another code push this morning. We love those.
  • Added error message when adding entry to page fails.
  • Redirect happens faster when adding entry to or creating a page.
  • Editing of multiple page attributes no longer fails on pages that have had their title rewritten for SEO.
  • Who's online now shows the correct location when a user is viewing a page rather than 'forum index'.
  • Viewing revisions of pages that have had their title rewritten for SEO is now possible.
  • All Ani interaction pages have been restored.
  • All release notes have FINALLY been restored.
    • In accordance with this, some Ani mods were improperly versioned when transferred to NRaas it seems. You may notice the release notes shown in some area's are not the latest one's. This will be fixed at a later time.
  • SP personality interaction pages have been restored.
  • Fixed anchors in table of context not working on links that were rewritten for SEO.
  • When editing listing pages, entries are now greyed out to draw attention to exactly what you are editing.
  • Ani's pages now have the small mod info header at the top of them.
  • Show an error message when tagging a page fails because one of the tags is too short or too long.
  • Show an error message when adding user page permissions fails.
  • Fixed the issue where deleting a tag would try to delete it multiple times.
  • Auto filter out tags that are too short or too long when auto populating the add entry tags field.
  • Editing a page title no longer updates it each time the page is clicked after.
  • Success/failure notifications when modifying page attributes or data now have proper timeouts so they don't stay indefinitely.
  • *open page editor* *text jumps down* Me: Why are you running? Stopped the violent text jumping that happens when the editor spawns on pages. It may still happen on edge cases due to the pages being converted but it shouldn't be as jarring. Should make spacing less of a mind trip.
  • Searching for posts by a user should no longer present a long list of error messages down the top of the screen.
  • Fixed some untranslated text on the page revision listing page.
  • Added text to the top of viewing a revision to revert to make it clearer which is revision and which is the current page.
  • Don't waste memory trying to find out what pages a mod page appears on because it isn't an article that can appear anywhere else, dur.
  • Removed excess space between list items on pages.
  • Restored editing permission to nearly 200 pages that had them missing due to import errors.
  • Fixed some pages that were improperly edited and thus had duplicated the content on them.
  • Several irrelevant pages have been deleted.
  • Pages that had punctuation in them converted those to dashes (-) making for weird links. Some of these have been changed to simplify the links.
We're getting there, folks. This push restores most of the last pages that were missing, give or take a few straggles that I am still working on. I know tutorials with XML are still a train wreck. Unfortunately fixing these is going to require more time because not only do I have to manually fix nearly 200 pages, there are complex issues with the editor that need to be resolved so the XML isn't deleted when these pages are edited. So you'll have to continue to bear with me on those. As usual give Cloudflare time to refresh before some of these changes appear.
