What on Earth happened?

Post by lucy_henley » March 22nd, 2020, 8:58 pm

As the title says... I sent four Sims on vacation to France. Everything was fine for a while.... then BOOM I get lots of errors. I’d sent the two young adults to the bookstore and the two teens were playing chess at the base camp. Everyone reset back to the base camp.. except for one of the young adults, who just completely disappeared from the portrait panel. As in, there were only three portraits rather than four. I could still see the Sim in question but I couldn’t click on them. They seemed to be completely motionless.
I had edited the base camp to have better beds and kitchen equipment, during the course of the refurbishment I did end up having to change the lot type from base camp to residential in order to place an oven, but I switched it back before saving. The adventures board had moved.
There were four Sims from the home town (Moonlight Falls) who were also getting script errors.
Also, after a while a Sim would stop getting errors, and then another Sim would be getting them. It was only one Sim who totally disappeared from the portrait panel (although not the world).

The script error reports were huge and very long, I tried scanning them for the missing Sim’s name but I couldn’t see it (may just be me missing it because they were long). There were 3 long script error reports.

Why did this Sim disappear? I exited without saving and luckily things look fine, I managed to stop them from going on their vacation. (They’re not adventurers/budding tomb explorers, I just thought it’d be cool for them to go).

We cannot begin to help interpret script errors unless we get to read them, no matter how long they are. One way to get them to us is to zip them together, post them to a third party file host, and provide a link so we can access them.

But that may not be necessary in this case because I think I understand what the problem was. You cannot change the lot type of a Base Camp to something else while you have sims staying at the Base Camp. That will evict them, and in the case of a foreign world leave them with no place to call "home" (locally). Setting the lot type back again will not necessarily fix that.

I would suggest a different method to refurnishing a Base Camp. One way to do so is to manage the refurbishments from the hometown end; on Edit Town you will see icons for the three WA worlds (and Uni, Oasis if you have those EPs in play). From there you can switch maps to edit without actually traveling or playing any sims there.

For Base Camps, regardless of where active gameplay is, that would require the enbablelotlocking on (or maybe it's true) cheat, then on Edit Town click the padlock that will show up on that lot to unlock it for Build/Buy editing. To place a stove/oven on a Base Camp since it is technically a community lot, you may also find that you need Buzzler's Build/Buy Restriction Choker mod; it's part of his Builder Stuff collection.

Actually, the Sims were not at base camp when I edited the lot. I did do the editing from the hometown end.
Hmm. Ah well, they technically haven’t been on vacation at all now since I exited without saving.

In that case I would say that (sorry, I misunderstood) something else caused the issue and the resulting errors and we would still need to read the script logs to help figure out what might have happened.

OK, I’ll post the errors as soon as I can after zipping them.

OK, here are the script errors. I hope I've done this right!

The Sim whose portrait disappeared is called Titania Morningdew, in case that helps. (She was still there in the world, just you couldn't click on her/interact with her).

You said the Sims weren't at the base camp when you edited but were the they on the vacation? Somehow they lost their routing ability and they are all associated with the base camp lot. I'd say if you edited it while they were on vacation, that was a bad idea. If not, I'm not entirely sure how it happened. It did escalate when their dream managers encountered corruption upon them being reset. That particular issue is fixed by installing Dreamer but I'm not sure it's relevant since you reverted the save.

OK, I might install it anyway in case something similar happens in the future. Thanks!
