Hi all!
I realized overtime that townie sims who are enrolled in a "profession" type career get $0/week when they retire. In my game, they are being kicked out of their houses left and right because they are so broke and SP considers them to be freeloaders.
I guess I have no choice but to turn off SP's autonomous retirement scenarios for professions so these townies receive a weekly stipend for a lifetime. I don't mind if it affects my active sims in a profession.
Is there a way to do that in MC, in such a way that it ONLY affects profession careers, including custom professions such as the ones provided by the Nraas "Careers SelfEmployed" mod?
Should I create a caste?
How can I turn off retirement for professions?

How can I turn off retirement for professions?

I have to say though that I have never heard of retired elders with no pension being kicked out of their own households for that reason alone. I mean, babies and toddlers don't usually contribute anything to the family funds either but we don't see them being told to get a job or else hit the road. Is that really what you are seeing or are entire households downsizing because they cannot afford their property tax bills under SP Money's Unified Billing and are therefore going into debt rather than treading water financially? Or are/were these elders living alone to begin with?

MC doesn't have anything to do with whether a sim will retire (on their own) or not. I think you meant to say SP there. Yes, I would suggest creating an Automatic type of caste based on the careers you had in mind and then, under Caste Options, set Career: Retirement Base Chance to 0. Actually, maybe to something less than 0 since a "Base Chance" suggests that the decision to retire or not may be affected by traits and other factors. You could also try this idea on a few sims selectively using Sim Options first to see how it works out.MissPatTS3 wrote: ↑November 16th, 2019, 9:03 amIs there a way to do that in MC, in such a way that it ONLY affects profession careers, including custom professions such as the ones provided by the Nraas "Careers SelfEmployed" mod?

That is correct.

So like, -50 would be enough?

Will give it a shot.

Sorry I hadn't given more context above: these few times when it happened, it was with elder sims whose lifelong spouse was recently deceased and kids had moved out. Since they were getting $0/wk they were eating up all their savings very quickly with:
- the cost of life / bills (I have used the setting in SP that removes money from the townies' household funds daily, to simulate a realistic cost of life);
- taxes and all (though my taxes are not that high, I have 5 tax brackets and poor households are paying close to nothing - if not absolutely nothing - I think, so these elders shouldn't be affected).

I know, we should, right? Add cats to that list of freeloaders. (I have one).

Yes, that was the kind of setting I had in mind.MissPatTS3 post_id=70046 time=1573915870 user_id=17350 wrote: So like, -50 would be enough?
I understand. It's a pity that we cannot exempt household by our choosing or who meet certain criteria such as maybe all elders from the daily fee setup. But this kind of thing is what SP Money's Elder Support and Social Security are supposed to address. The former comes from grown children's households provided they have any in town I believe regardless of the financial status of either, the latter from the government and is only dispensed to elders deemed "poor" by the game. Though I can understand wanting to keep these sims working if they need the funds and especially if they seem to enjoy it.MissPatTS3 post_id=70046 time=1573915870 user_id=17350 wrote: Sorry I hadn't given more context above: these few times when it happened, it was with elder sims whose lifelong spouse was recently deceased and kids had moved out. Not sure if SP's Career module is required but for professions like the Firefighter, PI, Lifeguard etc.... you should be able to set a pension for them per level they had before they retired.
Nraas>SP>General>Options Careers>Options Retirement>Maximum Per Level Active Career Pension
Defines the maximum amount to pay in pension for each level of a sim's retired career
This only applies to Active Careers, whose pensions are variable
Default: 50
Now if they where in a Self Employed career like Painter, Gardner and Angler by default they should not even retire as those are not careers that allow retirement.

Thank you so much! That's the setting I was looking for.
Now, it brings the question: If the default in SP is "50", why are these townies getting $0/week retirement stipend...? Or is that not supposed to literally translate into "$50/week retirement stipend" ? They were all at level 3 of the active careers before retiring autonomously so they shouldn't be getting $0/week per your comment - right?

That's a good insight. I've mostly noticed Ambition professions & Self-employed Authors retire autonomously (I never let my townies retire as Lifeguards, instead, I gave them the Lifeguard FT career by Missy_Hissy so I wouldn't know if townies in that active career ever retire autonomously).
I did have at least one Self-employed Painter townie retire autonomously though. Same for one Self-employed Angler townie. They were definitely getting the $0/week retirement treatment.
I guess I'll just do what Igazor said and turn off retirement for them through sim options / special caste creation.

It should be I think $50 a day as that's how pensions are supposed to work in the game and at level 3 they should've been getting $150 a day. I wonder if SP is missing a check somewhere. I would turn off retirement for now too I usually have my elders do one of part time careers.MissPatTS3 wrote: ↑November 17th, 2019, 1:00 pmNow, it brings the question: If the default in SP is "50", why are these townies getting $0/week retirement stipend...? A daily payment, even for active careers that paid a weekly stipend? I will look into the code, you would assume that they should be getting a weekly payment even during their retirement, simply from a consistency point...sittingbear post_id=70063 time=1574017342 user_id=16428 wrote: It should be I think $50 a day as that's how pensions are supposed to work in the game and at level 3 they should've been getting $150 a day. I like the idea of PT jobs for elders. Will look into itsittingbear post_id=70063 time=1574017342 user_id=16428 wrote: I would turn off retirement for now too I usually have my elders do one of part time careers.

So I guess I'll go more in the direction of igazor's proposed solution. Would have been great if this setting worked for my intended purpose! There are workarounds, so it's all good.twallan wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2013, 3:53 pmNote that is correction mechanism to stop the outrageous pensions that can occur for certain sims in town, it is not a means of adjusting pension on a general basis.
Most rabbithole careers have either a static pension defined by "Careers" tuning.
Ambitions style careers have their pension calculated based on the length of time you held the career and how much you made.

Why yes take the Stylist for example at level 10 they get $2306 which would be equivalent of most level 8 hourly careers.MissPatTS3 wrote: ↑November 17th, 2019, 4:04 pmA daily payment, even for pensions that paid a weekly stipend?
Now for Professions it takes an average of what they would get daily to determine what their pension would be.
Here's the code for I how it's determined
<kPensionIncomePerDayMultiplier value="6">
<!--Multiplier used to calculate the retirement stipend. This number is multiplied by the average earnings-per-day achieved over the lifetime of the career.-->
</kPensionIncomePerDayMultiplier>
