When starting a new game, the world is unpopulated for some reason.

Post by ChrisNonyminus » October 23rd, 2019, 2:30 pm

So I decided to start a new save in Sunset Valley. When the world finally loaded, I went to choose a household. There were no map tags.
So, I went to edit town, and I then noticed that ALL of the houses were uninhabited! I then decided to try to reinstall the world files by verifying the game files on Origin. When I tried again, the world was still unpopulated.
Please help!

@ChrisNonyminus -- not sure if you have Uni, but if by chance you're using the optional missing professor fix mod that's available with the Student Union crowding mod, you'll need to make sure you don't have it active when starting a new game, as it will wipe out the entire population. It was an unfortunate oversight on our end, so if this is the case, it might save you some time trying to find the culprit.

This is kind of a silly question I guess, but are you certain that Sunset Valley is the world that is loading? What you are describing sounds more like Adventureland, that which was meant to be an almost (except for two sims) unpopulated version of SV and that was never really intended to be revealed to players but that some Origin installs end up revealing anyway.

Yes, I made sure to load SV, not Adventureland.

Have you tried using Origin to run a Repair Game? I no longer have an Origin (for Windows) install myself as my game is on Steam but I believe this is different from Verify.

If that doesn't help, we'll leave the floor open to suggestions from others but it sounds to me like a faulty installation of some kind.

Yes. That's what I did when verifying the game files.

Make sure you're not stuck in the tutorial and try without your mods folder because sometimes faulty character import tuning edits can cause this.

Ok, so I loaded the game without the mods folder, and lo and behold, the world is populated.
Now the hard part is figuring out which mod is causing this problem...

Update: I still haven't figured out which mod is causing the unpopulation.
However, I can get around this by just starting a new save without any mods installed, quickly saving before choosing a household to play as, quitting, putting the mods back in, and loading the save. Then, the town will be populated and all the mods will work fine. I don't know if this will still work when having any sims go to a vacation world...
