fulfilling opportunities with mod?

Post by thebriamon » September 6th, 2019, 7:34 pm

Hi friends. I have a sim who is a medical intern, and he has gotten an opportunity to "ask about certifications", only, the sim he needs to speak to seems unreachable. I keep trying to call the sim (using the cellphone) to improve his relationship with the sim, but that sim is never available. I used MC focus to find the sim, and it ended up being a taxi driver. When I just click the button above where the moodlets are to do the opportunity, my sim can call the other sim, but their relationship isn't high enough to complete the opportunity. I think this is a chain, and I can't get anywhere with it, as usually at the end of the night the sim I need to reach no longer exists.

Is there a way I can just go in and skip this step, or tell the game I've completed it, or whatever? I would like to get to the next step, whatever it is.

Thanks!

That's a pretty unfortunate choice of sims for the game to make a subject of an opportunity. Generally speaking, vehicle drivers are in an "untouchable" class; although we may sometimes (rarely) see them wandering about town or on a community lot outside of their vehicles, usually we are not meant to even be socializing with them.

I can think of two ways to proceed here, neither one tested:

-- Use MasterController's Add Sim command to move the cab driver into a household in town, or give them one of their own, at least temporarily (thus making them a resident and not a cab driver anymore) and proceed with the opp. You would have to filter MC to include vehicle drivers as usually by default they would not show on the regular population lists. Then do with the former driver what you will or let them enjoy being something closer to a "real" sim with hopes and dreams for a change.

-- Use DebugEnabler's Opportunity command to see if you can grant your sim completion of the opportunity. Am not near my game at the moment, so I can't check to see if career opps show up there or if this will even work on an opp that is supposedly already in progress. But the command would go, on your sim, NRaas > DE > Options: Sim (or Smartphone) > Opportunities ... from there I am not quite sure.

And then there's the way I am sure will work, and that's cancel the opp and walk away from it. But that of course doesn't give the hoped for outcome unless it comes back around again with a more realistic subject to reach.

I looked through some of the DE options, but didn't see anything that I thought would help. I tried adding the sim to the neighborhood and got a script error. I ultimately decided the opportunity wasn't all that important and dropped it. Maybe I'll get it later and can try it again. Thank you!

In case you still want to finish that Opp without having to wait, you can reactivate it immediately through DebugEnabler or possibly MasterController. You should be able to do this multiple times if the game insists in setting you up with 'untouchable' sims, since the target of the Opp is randomly selected out of those available who meet the necessary requirements.

To do this, check the list you get by clicking on your Sim -> Nraas -> Basic -> Opportunities. It should be there if the requirements for it are met - same as when it happens during normal gameplay.
If not, much like Igazor said, Sim -> DE -> Options: Smartphone -> Opportunities -> Add Opportunity, where you're given a set of categories to choose from (Celebrity, Career, Skill, etc), and each holds a list of Opps.

The tricky part is knowing which one of them it is because not all Opps have been documented online and a lot of them don't have the actual name of the Opp on the title you see. Ex: file name is MedicalCareer_DonatePancreas, Opp name is You Don't Really Need It.
Aside from WA Opps, I've had trouble finding information on those added by expansions. Still, as long as you can remember what it was called, its description and/or previous Opp in the chain (if there is one), you should be able to find it in a few tries.

To note:
--> with expansions installed you'll see two categories for most careers - one for base game, another for all expansion-related Opps.
--> if you have an active Opp, all others that take the same slot are excluded from the lists. You need to drop or complete it before you can see them all. MC, unlike DE, also shows you if they're repeatable or not.
--> you can skip ahead in a chain with DE but not with MC, because DE will meet the requirements for you (adding skill levels, etc). MC only shows the Opps for which requirements have already been met.
--> extensive use of DE can sometimes screw things up. Make sure you have a backup save just in case. I haven't needed to use one so far and I did this a lot to get me through all the WA Opps but, you know, if something can go wrong...

By the way, I tried to find the Opp you described but short of going one by one, I couldn't figure out which it was. Didn't find anything by googling it. Hopefully you'll have better luck if you try this. It begged the question though, are you sure it was a Medical-exclusive Opp and not one from another category?

Thanks for the thorough reply.

To answer your last question, no I am not all that certain it is a medical only Opp. I just hadn't seen it before and assumed it was related to my sim's profession. I'll give your suggestions a try!

Minor correction to avoid confusion:
I forgot to add a step to the first method, it's in fact clicking on your Sim -> Nraas -> MC -> Basic -> Opportunities.

Sorry about that :P Hope it's useful to you. Happy gaming!
