I have been playing a town for about 7 generations now, and it is starting to get laggy. I would like to just save my current family to the family bin, empty my town of sims, and then start again. But still keeping all the buildings etc that I have put in place. I have selected total annihilation for all sims, but it doesn't seem to be working. Is there something else I should be doing?
I am sure I have previously read a solution for this, but I cannot find it now. something to do with being old I guess.
thanks
Is there a way to empty my town of sims but keep all the buildings

Total Annihilation is the usual suggested way to do that. There are two TA commands, one to be run on individual sims and one from City Hall's MC > Town menu to be run on the entire world -- that would be all but whichever is the currently active household. What happens if you try the Town version, do you get errors (script logs?), does MC get cranky and say "Nah, I don't wanna," does something else happen? TAing an entire world is kind of intrusive, the cursor will spin around for quite a while as all those deletions are being processed, a subsequent Save As, quit, and reload with ErrorTrap and Overwatch in place would be highly recommended to clean up any residual data, etc.

thanks Igazor, that did the trick. I am not sure why it didn't work before. I didn't get errors, it just seemed to ignore me - maybe I am just impatient. actually that is quite likely.
