Setting family ties
Is it possible for 2 sims to have uncle-nephew connection without the father sim excisting? The plot kinda goes that father isnt there at all, but uncle and nephew are family.

No, there has to be a parent sim in between them, living or dead, in the current world or in a different one within the same ongoing game, to be the sibling or sibling-in-law of the uncle. It's the same thing as with a grandparent and grandchild, that can't happen either unless there is a parent to take up the slot on the family tree between them.

If I make a placeholder sim and kill him off, do I need to always have his grave in the world for the ties to stay put? If game acts up I just use porter to move, but do I need to make sure grave comes along in inventory?

I don't actually know, perhaps someone else here does. There needs to be just enough data about the parent for that slot on the family tree to be populated, not necessarily an entire sim who is reachable. But on the other extreme, anything involving MC's Total Annihilation will leave the uncle and nephew not related because that function removes all traces of a sim ever having existed. The leaving a grave behind on portering thing, again not really sure what would happen there. Sounds like the worst thing that happens is that you would have to re-create the parent, fix the family relation links with MC, then kill the parent off again.

If I remember correctly, yes you do.KokosnootSpecerij wrote: ↑April 27th, 2019, 7:37 pmIf I make a placeholder sim and kill him off, do I need to always have his grave in the world for the ties to stay put?
Chain_Reaction answered that in a different post yesterday:KokosnootSpecerij wrote: ↑April 27th, 2019, 7:37 pmIf game acts up I just use porter to move, but do I need to make sure grave comes along in inventory?
I read this as meaning you don't need the gravestone, just pack the dead parent with the rest of the family.Chain_Reaction wrote: ↑April 27th, 2019, 8:52 pmPorter should be smart enough to handle them for you if there's family ties when you pack per Porter-FAQ#How-does-porter-handle-the-buried-dead
It should automatically recreate the graves for you.
