I do need to gather my addle brain together, somehow I missed Igazor's reference to Laugh In already. (I blame my post-surgery pain-meds, at least until I can't blame them anymore. )Tropical Insomniac wrote: ↑March 30th, 2019, 1:23 pmI do remember Laugh-In, from the edited reruns on Nick at Nite in the 90s. I even copied the Dirty Old Man's voice for one of my Dungeons & Dragons characters (though my character didn't go around harassing people).igazor post_id=64931 time=1553951867 user_id=6716 wrote: Anyone else remember Laugh-In?
However, I watched Leno probably a thousand times over the years he was on, so his face is more deeply imprinted in my memory than any other long-faced person's.

No worries, John. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've missed things that were right in front of me. So I sure ain't gonna think less of anyone else who does the same.
Besides, Iggy writes a lot of stuff. Nobody can be expected to read every single word of it.

I must be the baby around here. I've no idea what laugh in is despite being fairly educated in older shows. I totally see Jay Leno

He's in good company with myself in that. LOL. I'm a wordy guy and I may have him beat. BTW - I knew this about U, so I will keep it brief.Tropical Insomniac wrote: ↑March 30th, 2019, 3:40 pmBesides, Iggy writes a lot of stuff. Nobody can be expected to read every single word of it.

It was SNL before SNL. It ended in 1973 (I had to Google that) but they did reruns that carried it on a few extra years. I barely remember seeing it, more like hearing about it and watching clips. I have a fairly great memory for way too much useless stuff. Like I used to love watching reruns of The Carol Burnett show. I'd LOVE to see it on Netflix.I think much of the comedy from her show is pretty timeless. Not so sure about the Laugh In stuff carrying over though...kind of like SNL, it was likely hit and miss stuff and more a product of the times.Chain_Reaction wrote: ↑March 30th, 2019, 7:50 pmI must be the baby around here. I'm not very young and I don't remember laugh-in. I guess I'm technically a millenial. I remember Jay Leno only because of his face and definately see that resemblance. I'll play with her in CAS and see what she looks like.

Ahh, you kids today...
There's quite a few catchphrases from Laugh-In that have caught on, though. I think many today do recognize these things but just don't associate them with their source. The show wasn't quite as edgy and politically oriented as SNL can be, and it was much sillier, but hey it ran from 1968-73 and aired during prime time, at 8 pm in some areas and earlier in others. There was only so much that could get past the network censors back then. They did do a regular fake news broadcast though, and that became the format for SNL's Weekend Update feature.
"Sock it to me!" (Not yet Pres Nixon even got on the show to do one of these; he later claimed that appearance helped him win the election); this was much later the subject of the top tier question the first ever big winner on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? answered correctly. In fact, he still had his Phone a Friend lifeline and used it to call his dad to say hi and tell him he didn't need any help before answering.
"You bet your sweet bippy!"
"One ringy-dingy..., a gracious good afternoon (snort, snort)", etc. -- Lily Tomlin as Ernestine the telephone operator, I think she may have done those sketches elsewhere prior and certainly after but they were a regular feature on the show.
"And that's the truth, pfffft!" -- Lily Tomlin again, as a little girl usually in an absurdly huge rocking chair.
"Say goodnight, Dick." "Goodnight, Dick!"
The dance party scenes, one in every show, where jokes were told while dancing; this was later emulated on The Muppet Show.
The Farkel Family where all of the kids have red hair and freckles. Their parents don't, but the male "good friend and trusted neighbor" does. We often use this one right here to explain the Red Haired Baby scenario feature of SP.
And the one I still use all the time:
"Verrry interesting...but shtoopid!" -- Arte Johnson as a confused WWII German soldier usually hiding in bushes, not very politically correct I guess but hilarious in context.
It's amazing how many of these greats are still with us. Ruth Buzzi went on to do a lot of cartoon voice acting in addition to the game show circuit, she has a very distinctive voice. Wouldn't it be something if Ruth or Arte googled their own names and ended up here to comment?

I love Carol Burnett. Now I need to get Netflix just to watch that.
She was on there?? My great uncle went to high school with her and were good friends. She still sends a Christmas card every year even though he's been gone a while. She's a sweet lady. I mainly only know of her work in 9 to 5 and her recent show on Netflix.

That looks like one of my teachers I had in high school.Gamesquid17 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2019, 7:20 amI had NRaas set so that it would generate unique looking sims and although it had stopped the sims from having the same facial features it generated hideous abominations such as this firefighter. My settings are as followed Facial Blend Mutation: Random Sim -1.0 : 1.0 and Facial Blend Mutation: Unset Blends -1.0 : 1.0 with chance of bin offsprings being at 50 and random at 10 on Options:Lots. For Options: Sims it's the same facial settings except chance of bin offspring is set to 100 and random at 0.
