Saved Game Crashing After Adding 3 New Mods

Post by tcrankin91 » January 6th, 2019, 2:39 am

I'm running TS3 with every EP and SP except Supernatural, Katy Perry, Movie Stuff, Fast Lane Stuff, and Into The Future. I'm using a MacBook Pro, and I'm patched to the latest patch. The only mods I'm currently running on my game is Overwatch, ErrorTrap, and a No Intro mod. I had a really hard time getting my game to be playable on my Mac and with the help of lots of message boards, youtube videos and Overwatch and ErrorTrap I've been playing my game with minimal lag and crashes/corruptions. I've recently been reading about the mod Traveler and I was very interested in it to vacation in non WA worlds such as the IP world, etc.. I went to the NRAAS site and found the Traveler mod and downloaded and extracted the zip file. I also decided to download the mods Master Controller and Go Here. I put all of the package files inside Documents<EA<TS3<Mods<Packages where I currently have my Overwatch and ErrorTrap mods and launched the game. When the main menu popped up it did the active mod script popup thing and all of the mods were listed. I clicked the save game I wanted to play and it started loading like normal. However when it would finish loading before the saved game would pop up the game would crash to my desktop with the exception raised do you wish to debug pop up. I tried this several times to the same end. I went into the mods folder and removed the three mods I added because the game loaded fine before I added them and the game loaded and played fine again. I'm thinking I may have done something wrong as I'm fairly green when it comes to mods but I would really like to have the Traveler mod, the other two I would like to have working as well but the Traveler mod is the most important to me. The save game I was trying to load my sim is currently at university, I'm not sure if that could be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This is called grasping at a straw officially on my part, but is it the case on MasterController that you also downloaded and installed its optional add-on modules? MC Cheats and Integration are fine as they are, MC Tattoo requires an additional file from CmarNYC.
.

But MC Progression will crash the game on startup every time if the StoryProgression mod is not in play and you do not have that one on your list. The module is meant to act as a bridge between the MC and SP base mods and it cannot be used without both of them in play. Could that be the current issue?

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty sure I just downloaded MasterController. I just had the three package files (MC, GoHere, and Traveler) I did use the download link that is listed under the name and short description of each mod on the page that lists all of the mods available instead of actually clicking the name of the mod and downloading from the link on each mod's page. I'm not sure if that's useful info or not but thought I'd mention it. Another bit of info that may or may not be helpful is after seeing that the saved game would load and play when I removed the three mods I decided to try to just add the Traveler mod since that was the one I wanted the most and I again had the crashing problem when the saved game loaded.

Okay, that means you have the base MC mod but none of its add-on modules.

Are you clearing (deleting) the scriptCache.package file on the top level of your TS3 user game folder before each startup? This file, actually all five individual cache files that appear there but scriptCache is the important one here, must be deleted whenever the contents of Mods\Packages changes in any way. The cache files will regenerate the next time the game is launched.

And, can you start a new test game with the three mods in play without the crashing?

That's probably what's wrong, I've deleted those cache files in the past but I did not know I needed to clear the scriptCache file whenever I change Mods. So I need to delete the scriptCache.package file, should I do that before or after placing the new mods in the Mods folder or does it matter? Should I delete the other cache files as well? (CASPartCache, CompositorCache, SocialCache, etc..) Should I be deleting those files after every play session? What about the folders that have cache in the name? (DCCache, WorldCaches etc..) Should I be doing anything with those? Sorry for all of the questions and thank you for all of your help!!

When we talk about clearing (deleting) cache files, we usually mean CASPartCache, Compositor, etc. the five files at the top level of the TS3 user game folder. ScriptCache is the most critical one where mods are concerned. These files should be deleted routinely, many of us do so before ever game session begins or after every one quits, but admittedly that's kind of overkill. It doesn't matter if it's done immediately before or after content is added or removed because at that point the game would not be running. It's the actual launch and running of the game that makes the cache files regenerate once they have been deleted.

WorldCaches should only be cleared if there is a world install specific problem that one is trying to solve (this would be rare). They should never be cleared on a Mac, unless it is your intent to never play a saved ongoing game in those worlds as doing so will break things.

DCCache is your actual installed sims3pack EA Store and custom content. If you clear that folder or the dbc and ebc files that are inside of it, then you will no longer have that content in your game.

Saved Game Crashing After Adding 3 New Mods

Post by tcrankin91 » January 9th, 2019, 12:53 am

Sorry for the late reply, I reinstalled the Traveler mod and cleared the scriptCache file and was able to load and play a new game just fine! It still crashes when I try to load a previously saved game but when I take the traveler mod out of the mod folder and try to load the previously saved game it loads fine. So I'll just have to remember to remove the mod when I want to play one of my older saved games. I'm enjoying the mod so much though that it's totally worth the trouble! Thanks so much for your help!
