Study without Uni

Post by bekkasan » January 7th, 2019, 10:46 am

Hi, I've been reading this topic as it sounds very interesting to be able to do rather than send to uni which can be a bit boring if done too often, and more fun then just debugging a degree.
I've made sims study certain skills or do certain jobs before giving a degree, but this sounds more involved and I do like keeping my sims busy and out of trouble.
Do you need the Ultimate Career mod to use the 'degree careers' in that file?
I currently don't have that mod in play but do have it in my someday folder to add to game.

Nope, just the Nraas Careers Base Mod. They're essentially just custom careers, 'pretending', as it were, to be degrees.

Thanks Missy Hissy, I had those "degree, custom careers" but never used them because I wasn't sure what they were all about. I'll follow the link you provided and take another look at them. It sounds like they would work :)

Ok, so now I'm fully armed and ready to play uni without going to uni LOL. What I've done:

1. Downloaded all Missy_Hissy's apprenticeships, most of the custom careers, and after school activities (I figured my kids can get an early start on their skills for future apprenticeships/careers).
2. Downloaded Roocheysims custom careers (majors).
3. Downloaded a custom homeworld university, along with Misty's Uni RH rugs, which I won't use as an actual university. Instead, I'll use the RH rugs for individual classes, but mostly use the building equipment for classes (science stations, business cases, podiums etc) to gain skills. My sims will have to complete three of the required skills (reach level 10) to get the credits (1 skill point = 1 credit). The remaining credits will be gained through apprenticeship (3 levels: one level in the job = 6 credits)
4. Scholarships will be based on the original scholarships from the uni entrance test.
5. I may have my sims travel to France for cooking experience, Italy (Monte Vista) for art experience etc. where they can also gain credits.
6. 48 credits = a degree.

I may also add a second ani's bistro oven to my open diner and have my upcoming chefs take the "Hospitality and Catering" apprenticeship. They can work it as cooks and waitresses and gain credits.

Well those are my ideas that I pulled from everyone's replies. What do you think? Can anyone add to this or tweak it to make it better? Love suggestions. :)

Thanks Missy_Hissy, it sounds good on paper, but will it work in the game LOL. Your files helped put this together as well, so thank you for the downloads and all the work you do for everyone.

bekkasan, glad you love my ideas. I will be posting once I get organized and into it a bit. I just recently posted a simple challenge i did called The Madhouse Challenge. It filled in some time while I figured out what I wanted to do next. :)

Oh I love that skill point = credits idea and the study abroad idea! I haven't played with my degree careers in forever as I'm using the EA uni but you're giving me ideas!
