I'm working on supermaxing skills for one of my Sims and I don't want him to be a part of any social groups until I'm done with him. I'm working on supermaxing out his Street Art skill right now but I don't want him to be a Rebel yet. What's the best way to disable influence gains? I used SP on him to disallow the Jock, Nerd, and Rebel traits and skills for him but he still gains influence whenever he does something related to those social groups.

Look under the first heading "How Can I Stop Social Groups Influence". These instructions are for stopping the social gain for all sims in town. I don't think it's possible to stop it just for your active sim though, sorry.  

Yes! Thank you! That link is very helpful! Though, I am wondering why Social Networking also has to be disabled as well. Would I still accumulate influence if I don't disable skill gains on Social Networking?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to this. In my own game, I just wanted to stop the whole social networking and social group stuff. I believe they are linked in some way but am not sure. Hopefully, someone else will be along soon to explain more.

You probably don't need to disable Social Networking from what I could see it doesn't or shouldn't affect Social Group Influence. I could be wrong though.
You can leave enabled and see and then disable it if it does affect Social Group Influence.
