Travel to existing world-game hangs

Post by Iridescents » April 4th, 2017, 1:39 pm

Hi!
I'm trying to connect two worlds so that I can reconnect sim relatives. - I want my sim to travel to a save in Isla Paridiso from her current save in another world. I have followed the traveler instructions but perhaps I misunderstood something? The instructions were not as specific as I hoped they'd be, maybe I did something wrong that could be pointed out? :) The problem is that when I try to move the sim to a lot the check box greys out and the game hangs, nothing happens. (This is the instruction I was using <a href="http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Traveler-Is ... 20world</a>? )

What I did-
1. game is off so I backed up my saves.
2. Went to The Sims 3>Saves>Isla Paridiso Save
The wiki says "save-folder for save-game" but doesn't tell you if they mean the world you're visiting or coming from. I chose the one I will be visiting which is Isla.
3. Opened Isla and saw it had a bunch of NHD files. I copied the file that said IslaPardiso_#s.nhd.
(The wiki says to use the "OLD TOWN FILE" and I guessed what was meant by that..(the wording is awful lol!) I guessed that it meant the place you want to visit, Isla NHD file in the Isla folder, is that right?)
4. I went to my most current save for the world I'm traveling from and pasted the NHD file from Isla.

So, I use the phone in game, choose to travel, and pick Isla Paridiso. When I get to the world it loads fine. The map shows a pier I've edited so I know it's the right place. however it does not show the house on the same island (where the sim's relatives live), though that might be due to the fact that it's on an unlockable island and maybe the house would load fully once started.

My problem is that every time I go to check the box to start playing nothing happens. I can select other properties but the game just sits there.

I've read the crinrict article and others on how to fix a greyed out checkbox. I've literally never had this problem with any other loadup so I'm assuming it's due to the fact that I'm trying to travel to an existing save. I'm logged out, f5 has no save option if i wanted to try that, and the travel save is a new name.

I have not tried resetting files or deleting the cache files because I don't know how that will affect trying to visit the existing world. Since i'm trying to load something that's already there i'm wary of deleting the files that remember how stuff is supposed to be in this scenario. Is it safe to try that? If so, I'll give it a shot.

When I began the travel to Isla I created a new save when prompted. I just now noticed that it only has the NHD file for Isla. It does not have a ExportDB.package like the rest do when I look at it now, is that normal? I'm guessing it's because I haven't played it yet but figured it wouldn't hurt to include the info just in case. There is no script error that I can tell, the game just doesn't load to the next screen.

sorry this is so long. I've been trying to solve it all day and it's rather complicated and I didn't want to leave anything out. :)

From the sound of it, you are following the steps correctly. It is always okay to delete the five game folder's cache files, that won't do any harm to your game no matter which stage of this move you are in.

A few pieces of info missing, do you have Overwatch and ErrorTrap in place? The work together with Traveler to help smooth out these travel transitions and get the sim to land in the destination world properly. And which version of Traveler do you have in place?

Also, as this is a "used" world in that it's been played before, are you certain that there are available places for the visiting sim to stay? They can't select lots where other sims are currently living as the free lodging, price included with travel ticket type of lot and if there are none, then yes they may get stuck on the arrival screen.

thanks for such a speedy reply! I'll double check that i'm trying to enter an empty house and delete the cache files. I do also have Overwatch and Errortrap running, (I have most of the mods), I have the newest version of traveler and the most updated version of the game. I did notice that I can't choose the resort, is that normal as well?
thank you again

I made sure there were multiple empty houses in the Isla save, exited and deleted the 5 main cache files. I loaded the game again from my main save, traveled to Isla and it got hung up again. I picked the lot that was empty in the other saved game. I'm baffled.

I might have to give up on this, just can't seem to get it to work.

I don't usually use the copy and past nhd file method myself, but have done so occasionally and in testing. It usually works, especially with EA worlds (custom ones can act goofy sometimes). Others here use this method more often. In case you do decide to return to this:

1 - Can you travel successfully to a fresh instance of a world you have installed without the nhd copy? How about travel to Isla Paradiso, again without the other nhd in place?

2 - Maybe there is something odd about the particular instance of that IP world saved on that particular day. I don't suppose it's possible you are playing with fewer EPs in place now than you might have had when you were playing the world in its own original save?

3 - Perhaps give the beta testing version of Traveler a try (ver 87d). It seems to cure all kinds of ills, although this isn't a documented one, but maybe it will help. You can always put v86 back in place if it somehow makes things worse.
