Tagger Frustration

Post by sufri » January 24th, 2016, 10:46 pm

I finally got tagger to work for me in Monte Vista, but except for strangers, all the Sim tags were red. This was OK, 'cause TAGS! I started a new game in Twin Rivers, and only the deer has a tag. I tried all sorts of settings to get the tags to show up on the other sims, but was unsuccessful. Each time I reset to Default settings. I don't know if XML is sensitive to un-closed brackets, but the confirmation message reads: " Reset Completed.</STR".

I'm sorry Tagger is giving you problems. It really shouldn't be too much trouble. The confirmation message is just cosmetically broken, shouldn't be causing problems. Why don't we confirm what you are doing in attempt to get the tags to work and what version you're using?

Thanks for responding, Chain. First; I am running Tagger version 2. My Sims 3 game version is 1.67. I have all EPs and a bunch of the NRAAS mods installed, as well as some Sims 3 Store content. I also run the Plum Mod Painting Replacement and Dexter the Bear mods. My computer setup is Windows 8 running in Bootcamp 4.0 on a 2.66 mHZ mac mini, dual drive.
I figured it out. It has to do with the colors of the tags. In a new game, the proprietors' tags showed: 000000, black; the NPC sims (taxi drivers, bartenders, tourists, etc.) tags showed, CCCCCC (probably ), gray, and the University mascot is orange, but none of the others. The dialog box default Color HEX shows eight places to describe the color, except it won't let me put in a string of eight characters. It returns the error "NRaas.Tagger.Hex.Error". For some reason, the tags for "Never Met", FFFFFFFF (white) don't show up in the new test game, which is why I thought Tagger was messed up. (It worked in a game where I had friends and co-workers, AND the tags for "Never Met" show up as white! I reset to default, then set Enable Lot and Sim Tags = True.) Anyway, in the new test game I put in the color 660000 for "Never Met", which is a red. The mod added ff to the beginning of the color string, which changed the color to a maroon. But the tags showed! I think it might be my computer that has problems with eight string HEX colors.
I did some testing and found that Tagger adds FF to the beginning of all input six digit HEX colors. This can alter the way the computer interprets the colors, eh? I think this HEX issue was discussed elsewhere.
Long story short, if I modify the colors for Never Met in a new game to something other than FFFFFFFF, the tags will show up in my games.

I suspect that Chain is going to ask if you have tried v3d of Tagger yet, currently in beta testing but probably close to full release.

But while we are waiting for that to happen, and sorry to barge in on your thread, but how well do you find the game runs on your Bootcamped Mac Mini otherwise? Does the Iris graphics give any problems on the Windows side or does it behave around the same as one would expect integrated graphics to run? Any issues with overheating? I used to love Minis (for other reasons, years ago) but would never think of even trying to run TS3 on one, especially the problem-infested Mac version of the game. But Bootcamp would give me pause only because of the graphics -- my now older iMac happens to have a dedicated card that Windows seemed to be happy with.

First, I want to revise my statement, "Tagger adds FF to the beginning of all input six digit HEX colors". Tagger uses Sims3Gameplay.MapTags, and I noticed there that the extra FF is added, also. I will look around some more to find which Sims3 Gameplay script does this.

igazor, This is a mid-2010 mini, aluminum unibody. I never had a problem with over-heating. I tried to run Sims 3 on the mac, but hated the lags. So Bootcamp. The shared graphics card works well enough, I have 8 gb RAM installed, and the windows is 64 bit. I don't know what you mean by how one would expect integrated graphics to run. The game is amazing on this setup. Super fast. The graphics are beautiful. I had to back off the reflections, but otherwise here are my typical settings in-game:
Reflection Quality-Mirrors Only;
Edge Smoothing-Off (I don't know why I did this, I think I can probably turn this on without a hit to performance.);
Visual Effects-Medium;
Lighting and Shadows-High;
Tree Detail-High;
Draw Distance-High;
High Detail Lots-3;
Texture Detail-High;
Sim Detail-High;
So not the highest settings on some of these, but I trade off for SPEED.

I don't know how many EPs you are running, but typically any PC with integrated graphics is going to start choking and/or Error 12ing (reaching for too much RAM and impossible to negotiate saves) after a certain point. Pets and Seasons tend to be the killers. A Bootcamped Mac fares a bit better because of how well they are put together, but you are the first one I've seen report such success with a Mini. If it's from 2010 then Intel Iris being recognized is not an issue as it might be with the newer ones, you probably have NVidia so I jumped to the wrong conclusion there. Kudos, sounds like it's working great for you aside from this Tagger issue.

And now I'll let this thread get back to the topic it was intended to have. :)

Yeah. NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory. Lots of choking before the Bootcamp/ MS os 8.0. With 64 bit, the memory is no longer a problem. Lots of sweating to install and get it working, though, I run ALL the EPS. I could not live without the snow.:)

Give version 3 a try and see if it resolves any of your issues.
