Unable to locate Sims 3 install folder

Post by ollinaie » September 15th, 2016, 9:10 pm

In the line beneath the menu I get "Unable to locate Sims 3 install folder" instead of the version number.

This happens with all versions of Mod Updater including 1.13
I am still on game version 1.67 Origin and don't plan to change.

MU installed NRaas_ErrorTrap_P169_V100, after manual change to NRaas_ErrorTrap_P167_V100 my Sims are happy and MU is keeping that file.

My game path is "D:\Px86\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3W.exe" on W7x64, multilingual: EN, DE.

I use Any Game Starter 3, and other teaks and tunes.

How exactly is MU trying to figure out the version number? Can I set a reg entry or a junction (hardlink) to point it in the right direction? Or is there a way to set the version number manually?

Thanks for your help and this wonderful program

Hi ollinaie,

To get the version number first the program has to find the Sims 3 installation folder.

So it looks in the registry for one of the following keys,
If you are on 64 bit windows (and I guess you are from the Px86 in path)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Sims(Steam)\\The Sims 3
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Sims\\The Sims 3

for 32 bit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Sims(Steam)\\The Sims 3
or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Sims\\The Sims 3

Thanks for your reply.

There is one of the three entries present:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sims\The Sims 3]
"Country"="US"
"SKU"=dword:00000001
"DisplayName"="The Sims\" 3"
"Install Dir"="D:\\Px86\\Electronic Arts\\The Sims 3"
"Locale"="en-US"
"Telemetry"=dword:00000000
"InstallStart"=dword:00000000
"ProductID"=dword:000003e9
"ExePath"="D:\\Px86\\Electronic Arts\\The Sims 3\\Game\\Bin\\TS3.exe"

CC Magic and Delphy's Sims 3 Dashboard tool can identify it:

It may be that it was not determining if you are 32 or 64 bit correctly. I found a better method and I have updated the updater to v1.14. Please download this version and see if that resolves the issue.
