Adoptions

Post by littlelambsy » August 6th, 2018, 11:04 pm

Just wondering if you allow adoptions in your game. If so, how do you control how many kids are adopted by one family? I have it turned off at the moment but was thinking about activating it. I just don't want my inactive families adopting a bunch of kids. Even elders adopting kids then dying and leaving them on their own. What's your secret :)

Hi littlelambsy - I don't really have an answer for you except to say I have adoptions allowed at all levels in SP and have never seen a family adopt a child on their own. Just curious but where do you have those turned off?

Not in game at moment but I think it's in so town options. Households allow adoption... I think. Thanks for the feedback on this.

I thought that might be where you disabled them. I'm wondering now if anyone who has allowed adoptions ever has any sims adopting sims.

To clarify: autonomous adoptions by inactives as well as actives.

I've had inactive sims adopt in several of my games. It's always been same sex couples (not sure if that's down to coding or luck of the dice) and I think once I saw a single sim adopt. As far as I can tell they've always honoured the Pregnancy: Base Number of Children sim setting. At least I've never seen any couples go wild and adopt gazillions of children, at most they've adopted a two or possibly three.

I always have adoptions enabled and both same and (I think now I'm not sure how often) opposite gender couples adopt in my worlds, as do a smaller number of single sims. I believe that many players switch this off at the Town level to stop inactive pet adoptions, as the same on/off setting governs both.

The base number settings will dictate how many kids (or pets) sims will want to have, and is further influenced by their traits.

To cap this, I would use Maximum Size: Human. Once a household is "full" according to that cap, there will be no further adoptions until the cap is increased or someone dies or moves away.

Thanks everyone. I remember now, thanks to igazor jogging my memory, I turned it off at town level because too many households were adopting pets. Also, in one of my games, one of my families that I rotated adopted a child. I couldn't figure out why they had an extra kid so they must have adopted him. But it bugged me when elders started adopting kids, then die and leave them to be snatched by social worker. Now I'm thinking it would be sweet for some families to adopt. I guess I'd have to make a caste to stop elders from adopting.

Just curious but where are the other setting that control adoptions? And can I stop adoption of too many pets?

Okay, sounds like we might be going in circles here. How about if you decide who gets to adopt instead of your town's sims and just make that happen with MC's Adopt command? That should cut right through the restriction since it's player-directed (I think).

Sounds good. I'm a little ditzy right now and won't be able to play for a few weeks. Had house disaster water pipe flooded my floors. A little displaced and going into sim withdrawal lol. Hope to be back playing very soon.
