Not that I really wanted to know mind you (who are you again? -- just kidding!) but I'm part way through my own Steam conversion myself over here and was wondering how complicated it would be if I had to retract and do the Origin thing all over again.
You were right, the base game download from Steam is taking a long time and I have pretty spiffy Internet (usually). The Steam servers must be running pretty heavy because of the sale, it's a holiday weekend (sort of) in many places, etc.

Hi igazor, yes, what I did was with a fresh install, no messing about with patches and starting with a new fresh game folder. Then I downloaded all my store content first, then checked to see if it was all there. When that was confirmed, I moved over all the dbc files from the original backed up DCCache folder into the new game folder, which gave me all my cc. I also moved over my mods and saves. When I started my game, everything was the way I left it before uninstalling...except that I'm now on patch 1.69 ... temporarily. I've started buying the game on discs and am waiting for them in the mail.
So you moved over to steam. Good for you Steam really confused me, It seems to install the base game, and all the ep's with it but only one sims 3 file shows. So In couldn't figure out if my eps were installed or not. Steam also doesn't have a way to contact them, just the forums. I got so frustrated I got a refund and gave them all back to Steam. I am interested to know how you like the game with Steam and if you found it easy to navigate. Let me know

Okay, no wonder the Steam download took so long. It was downloading and processing the base game and all 18 of my EP/SPs all in one swell foop. That really wasn't so bad. I can see the EP folders, it's just that they named as EP1, EP2, etc. rather than World Adventures, Ambitions, etc. And the game (vanilla) with all the packs runs fine.
But my old game folder crashes on loadup. Well, of course it does. None of my store content is present and the Cupcake mod will crash the game without the bakery set there. Now I have a similar challenge to what you were facing except on the Steam end, how to get my store content recognized or re-installed. The custom dbc content seems to be fine, but I'm going to have more than a little trouble playing my ongoing game in Riverview for example without Riverview even being there.

LOL, sorry igazor, I couldn't help laugh at trying to play an ongoing game in a world you no longer have. Welcome to my nightmare. Yes, the store content. I had to go to my downloads history at the sims 3 and re download it into the launcher and install it before adding any cc. I had 19 pages of store content and the downloads history page kept timing out on me and I had to sign back in all the time. And, of course, it never takes you back to the same page it timed out on.

Okay, everyone in Riverview now says hi from an EA Store venue. The rest of the content reinstall will be fine, but this is a royal pain in the...uhm, something. At least I "only" have 14 pages of store content to slog through. Yes, the TS3w.exe bypass shortcut works but I haven't started up that way more than twice because I had to keep looking in the Launcher to see which content was missing.
I got 1,000 store points for registering my "new" base game though. Bet I'll get more when I register WA, I think that's the way it always worked.
