Which Mods Interfere w/Snow Days for School?

Post by Sonshine » November 30th, 2016, 8:21 pm

Hi, I've heard that the Career mod interferes w/the snow days, but I removed it and I'm still not getting any snow days. Is that another nraas mod that interferes w/it? Thanks.

Hi Sonshine7 .. not sure where you heard the Career mod interferes with snow days but Careers will not interfere. At least to the best of my knowledge.
I am assuming you have Tempest installed, correct? When you say snow days are you referring to Snowflake day? My sims just had snowflake day but I'm not aware of any other winter holidays unless you are adding a new entry. Not sure how that works but though. I struggle with those weather settings.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant days when there is "too much snow" and the kids don't have to go. I've never gotten any of those and some I've talked to said that the career mod interferes w/that.

@Sonshine7, I think the mod that interferes with snow days is the SP Careers module, not the Careers mod. That's based on a comment by igazor on the TS3 forums.

Is there an interference? I'm not aware of it.

Well, something interferes. I haven't had a snow day in-game in ages. I hadn't really thought about it until igazor brought it up in the thread I mentioned. I'm happy not to have any; I never liked how a child sim could get away with 1 or 2 days of school their whole childhood due to snow. I used to think it was some NRaas setting that I changed which was responsible. But apparently there isn't any such setting.

We've had this discussion here before. I do wish you guys would pay attention. I mean, it was just the other day...week...uhm okay, it was a couple of years ago. The fun part was getting all of you (gee, I've suddenly noticed that some of your names and identities have changed since back then) to understand the difference between a Snow Day (no school), Snowflake Day (the formal holiday), and a day that just has some snow in it, which are all different things.

I have never once seen a Snow Day in my game and I play Riverview at around the coldest and snowiest anyone could ever stand to live in it. I was also, at the time, satisfied with the SP Careers module explanation wherever it originally came from since I've had SP Careers longer than I've had Seasons and it seemed to match up with everyone's experiences who did/did not have the module back then. I don't think we ever went as far as formal testing, though. We also, I don't think, reached any kind of conclusion as to whether Twallan did this on purpose (given where he's from seems like the schools should close for unscheduled Snow Days once in a while) or if he found the structure too complicated to replicate without the often happening Stuck in Snow Day Mode Seemingly Forever syndrome that players without SP/SP Careers often find themselves in.

I should say that I've never tested either. I did have snow days before adding mods into my game, and then suddenly they stopped. I don't miss them so I never really investigated.

Oh. The Snow Day code is kinda just entirely absent from the mod. That might explain things. I'm not sure that was intentional. Twallan believed in options. It's why we have 300,000 of them. :P

I guess it could have been an oversight. But he also may very well have filed this one next to the SP option that allows the Neighborhood Pet Adoption Clinic to work (the broken one that probably no one wants anyway). Or the SP option that still allows free food to appear in sims' refrigerators for players who rotate in and out of households (that some players only think they want, apparently they think fridges really do come with free food in them). But maybe I have been reading too much into what wasn't quite as intentional as those two examples all this time. :)
