Baby Gender

Post by Sonshine » June 30th, 2016, 12:47 am

Hi, recently and even now, when I click on a pregnant sim lady to try to see the gender of the baby, it doesn't appear. The only time it appears is when I purposely dictate the gender. Is there another setting for this? I choose mc/status/relationship when I click on the sim herself and up until now, I've always been able to see the gender.

The way I have always understood this to work (in the sim world, that is, I'm pretty sure this isn't true in our own world) is that the gender of a baby is not determined until birth unless you do something in-game or have a mod setting in place that determines it prior to that. And even then, if it's to be a multiple birth (twins, trips, quads), only the gender of the first baby born can be influenced or determined.

I sometimes use a sim who's a doctor. They can determine the gender of a child.

It depends if your using EA's SP or Nraas SP
EA's SP won't show the baby's gender in MC/Status/Relationship
Nraas SP will show the baby's gender in MC/Status/Relationship or at least it's supposed to; it always has for me.

Seeing a doctor (strange as that may sound) and using SP with baby genders options at something other than Random are examples of doing something to actually set an unborn baby's gender.

Interesting, I didn't know that. So if I have my doctor determine gender, the baby becomes whatever he/she says - for example, a boy. But if I leave it alone and don't look, then she could have a girl? Does checking the gender in MC, Status, Relationship also set the gender or just show what it will be?

MC won't set the gender SP will
All MC does is tell you what SP set then gender as

As I understand it, the doctor checking locks the gender (of the first baby if there are multiples) in place. Taking a peek in MC Status doesn't lock or change anything, but the gender is still undetermined then it won't display a prediction.

I still do this the old fashioned (?) way with SP set to Random, not Balanced or any of the other choices. My sims may eat fruit to influence gender one way or the other, but I really don't know for sure what gender they will have until the baby is born and MC Status doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Good to know :) I usually check MC Status to find out how much time is left before the birth. Most of the time I don't want to see the gender of the baby but it's hard to avoid it when checking the hours.

I also wonder if the Doctor can tell who the father of the baby is. Cause I just had one of my inactive doctors use the Determine Baby Gender on another inactive and then all of a sudden the doctor got made and accused her husband of cheating so I took a look with MC and sure enough the father of the other inactive female is the doctors husband he's naughty boy
