Retuner- Can Lifeguard careers be opened up to Teenagers?

No one knows everything this mod can do. Did you know you can tune the size of your sims nostrils with this mod? I'm kidding.

Retuner- Can Lifeguard careers be opened up to Teenagers?

Post by ladybarefeet » June 17th, 2016, 9:01 pm

Realistically, teens are lifeguards all the time, so I feel like my game should allow for it. How could I Retune Sims so that can happen? The hours would conflict with school so can I just reset those hours to whatever I want? Many of my sim kids are homeschooled, just no time for school and they learn NOTHING there really (in RL my kids are homeschooled too!)
But, for sims who are are school and during spring, I would need to deal with the hours conflicting issue.
Surely someone else has done this, I really like the Lifeguard career, except for when 4 sims at once are drowning and slap my sim and I have to kill them.

Nobody knows? I guess I will be the pioneer then, and back my game up, then find out.

Hi ladybarefeet ... I do not think that can be done with Retuner. The Career itself would need to be modded/tuned and not sure if EA careers can be tuned. I did look around for a custom lifeguard thinking it might be easier to tune that but could not find one. The only custom career is the Pool Jobs For Lifeguards by icarus_allsorts. You might be able to tune that or post over at MTS.
Please be patient waiting for responses. We're all in different time zones both here and abroad and many members are at work and not always checking in. We ask that members give at least 24 hours before bumping.

I believe its within the game core itself that selects which FT Careers are only for Adults and beyond and some PT for Children / Teens. The code itself is reachable and with MC or SP, you can select which Careers you want to give to whatever Sims.

With MC its MC> Sim> Intermediate> Career> Choose Job, it doesn't discriminate in ages, though on EA SP they probably will kicked out Teens out of full time jobs due to the game core.

With NRaas SP, you can enable in the Teen Caste to allow such fulltime careers to active/inactive teens, how?; Cityhall> NRaas> SP> Caste Options> Teenager> Careers: Allow> select all the careers you wish a teen for it to be allowed in. Though do keep in mind that the work time doesn't overlap with their school schedule.

Retuner has no business in this ;-)

Thanks J4Ks. I did not think Retuner had anything but was not sure. The options in SP might work for ladybarefeet as her sims kids are home schooled. I've used that option for some jobs for teens but as you said, many of the jobs overlap. Thanks again for the clarification :)

Thanks you two! @Brappl, I am so used to you all responding quick and thought maybe I'd just bump it up in case someone just didnt have time to answer and then forgot to come back and answer etc. I wasnt trying to be rude at all, so I hope no one thought that. I am so not that kind of person, Im more like "alrighty then I will role up my sleeves and do it my darn self & come tell everybody what I learned". In no way do I feel like anyone is obligated to help me out, I think I just get a little too comfortable here in the Chatterbox say, "uh hey... guys... ?"

I am gonna go try J4Ks idea with MC, I didnt think it would be that easy, and I thought retuner might be involved because I might have to change the hours the sim works that shift. I thought I saw a menu option somewhere to handle days off, so it made me think somewhere theres a set work hours option.

If you are going to try the MC way, you might need to set on the Sim Options> Career: Allow Find Job to False, you approach it by clicking on the Sim> NRaas> SP. Not doing so will probably trigger that Sim to quit its job when it reach the SP Career Manager and find something else to its personal taste.

Changing working hours of Careers or School is unfortunately not possible with any of our mods since its table based. You will have to edit a Careers Tuning mod of the Careers _XML of the game or any custom career to achieve that, also any changes you make on such careers, requires non to be working in such careers, you probably need to quit them all with MC and either give them the same job back individually with MC or let SP handle it on its own.

The reason I didn't respond on the original inquiry, although obviously I was around at the time because I was responding to others, is that I haven't been brave enough to try this. Some sims are barred from certain roles/careers by age because they don't fit the uniforms, so to speak, and I didn't know if lifeguards are supposed to wear something above/beyond a regular swimwear outfit. This is apparently why we can't have teen professional mixologists (I think) even though they can learn the skill just fine.

Nor do I know if the required lifeguard animations would work well with teens -- seems like they should but apparently this is why we can't have children/toddlers as bouncers. Okay, I don't really want children/toddlers as bouncers, but I do keep throwing that one in as an example of age-restricted careers/roles when the subject comes up. :)

I have a teen who is a "part time" Ambitions stylist though, and one who performs on stage in a SHT career (though I rarely have him do anything with that one), and not home schooled so I only let them accept job offers/gigs after school hours.

I'll be interested to see how this one works out, though.
