Job Performance too fast

Post by Celia73 » April 16th, 2024, 3:58 am

Hi everyone.

I play with epic lifespan, always. And until now I left the Story Progression mostly alone, changing few things, but not messing with its more important features.

My active sims reach the top of their careers in about a week or two. Two weeks is rare though, usually it's faster, even if I don't use the opportunities presented. They get filthy rich in like 50 - 80 days, depending on my playing, and I get bored :D.
In a recent game, my sim had a salary of 1,600+ per hour as an International Spy and a worth of 1 million in 90 days or so. (Okay, not only from his career, but nectar making and selling too, but...)

(Whereas townies, don't reach higher levels at all. They rarely get to level 5 in some careers, then they stay all their lives there, with few exceptions, but mostly they stay in level 2 and 3, few make it to level 7 or 8 and only in some careers).
Only in self employment, where job performance depends on earnings, things progress slowly.

So, I wanted to slow things down a little. In my new game, with the same sim, I changed his Ambitious trait (which accelerates promotions) to Perfectionist. I changed the SP speed to Snail. I changed the cycle to 5000 (from 500).

But in his first day in medical career, he got from Intern (medical level 4) to Resident (level 5). I restarted the game, and I started manually reducing his job performance to 10, every day. But when in his 6th day of work, I had to adjust it manually two times, I gave up and he became a Resident. I would like him to stay longer in these positions in the medical career (I didn't care much in the law enforcement).

The job performance adjustment in SP I left it to 1, because it says that it is for inactives.

Is there anything else that I can do or just give up and play along? :D

Thank you in advance.

Job Performance too fast

If you have Adjust Active Performance set to True, as it is by default, then the changes SP makes to job advancement rates should also apply to active sims. Then I would suggest raising the Job Difficulty Scale to something higher than 1 and adjusting the Stepped Job Difficulty Scale to something higher than 0.

It is also possible that Adjust Performance to Age Span becomes ineffective when the age span is extremely long. No data to back that up, it's just a theory.

One reason that actively played sims will typically advance much faster than inactives is that players tend to take care of their needs, send them to work well rested, well fed, and in a good mood and would be less likely to use Sleep on the Job or whatever tones on them while being watched over. Inactives do not usually do such a good job of taking care of themselves and thus stand to lose this competitive advantage.

Job Performance too fast

igazor, thank you.

Adjust Active Performance was true.
So, I made Job Difficulty Scale 10 and Stepped 10 too. Hope it's high enough.

Well, even when "Watch TV in the ready room" (or "Take it easy" in other careers), the performance raises, it shows the green arrow. :)

Yes, as mood is always a factor in the job performance and usually my sims are elated all the time, lol, no help from that option.

Thank you again. I'll see if the 10 in those options slows the progression, if not, well, I'll play along.
