Sudden Issues With Nraas

Post by rattling_the_teacups » December 16th, 2023, 11:44 pm

I have been playing Sims 3 with Nraas mods installed for years. Early this morning I decided to add the Nraas Cheats mod to my computer because one of my sims, for some reason, is not related to her family, and it looked like I could fix that problem with an additional mod. Once I added the cheats mod into my Mods folder with the others, suddenly none of my mods are working! And the popup that should come up at the main menu noting mods has disappeared. I tried taking everything out of the folder and putting it back in, because that's helped sometimes in the past, but no luck in getting mods to work again. I deleted the DeviceConfig.log in my Mods folder because I'm an idiot, and I'm now concerned that I messed it up irrevocably. I read that I maybe should delete the cache, but I don't want to delete anything else in case I screw up any of my saves. Currently I can open and play with all of my saves without the mods, but playing Sims 3 without mods is like driving without headlights: doable in the right conditions, but impossible once you're in a situation where you need them. Anyway, I'm not sure what information would be most helpful to share here to show what's going on in my folders, but I'll try to include everything that might be useful. I also had several script errors that showed up the last time I booted up mods in tact. My sims had actually been traveling in France, and I was not able to send them home (game froze during the loading screen going back to Riverview). It was that save I was trying to play again, and I had to load in from when I saved right before the trip. From what I can tell, all of the script errors are from before I tried to add Nraas Cheats.

Okay, so here is my Sims 3 folder (messy, messy):

And here is my mods folder as it looks right now:

I think I uploaded my script errors to the forum to link them here, but for some reason it's not showing up on my post, so sorry about that.

Deleting the deviceconfig.log would cause no harm whatsoever. It's an output file that gets overwritten every time the game starts up. The cache files need to be deleted whenever the contents of Mods\Packages changes in any way.

Your script logs uploaded fine even though they aren't showing on this message board.

(takes off eyeglasses, cleans them, puts them back on again) I don't think I've ever seen this one before. You are trying to travel with a wild horse (not a member of any household) as part of the travel party? In other words, stealing wildlife from one world to put into another? Turn around and put your hands behind your back please. You have the right to remain silent...okay of course I am joking with this last bit here, you aren't really under arrest.

But I think our developer needs to see these script logs to tell us what's really gone wrong here. I feel like I must be interpreting them very poorly..

Do I delete all files that include 'cache' in the name? I can do that and see that it helps.

Also, I certainly have not been traveling with horses! They just appear in my travel worlds for some reason, I'm not sure why my game was taking them with me. Didn't even give me the option to travel with them or not lol. The last few days of sim vacation, especially, were giving me literally hundreds of notifications about errors regarding horses and I was super confused.

It's five files.

CasPartCache.package
compositorCacbe.package
scriptCache.package (this is the important one when it comes to mods like MasterController Cheats and most others here)
simCompositorCache.package
socialCache.package

I deleted all five files, and still no luck with my mods. Sorry to be difficult. :(

An observation because you mentioned it being in the Mods folder, could it be possible you are referring to Resource.cfg and not DeviceConfig.log (which lives in the The Sims 3 folder and generates on startup, as mentioned by Igazor)? Because deleting the former would indeed prevent all mods from loading, but it can be simply replaced without any harm. You can redownload it from the MTS framework and just drop it back in your Mods folder :)

The script errors are outfit corruption among the wild horses. If you're not attached to any of them, I'd TA them in France with MC to stop the errors when you sort out why mods have disappeared. Definitely something else causing that and if I had to guess it's what Cardinal already noted.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. Just today I fixed my problem with the mods thanks to CardinalSims' suggestion. The link to modthesims was really helpful. I was able to put my Nraas mods back into my game. And as a bonus, I was able to use my mods to make my sim actually related to her family again! I haven't played Sims 3 in months because I was afraid I was too computer illiterate to follow directions correctly. So really, thank you everyone for helping me out. I appreciate it so much.
