Sim demoted from job immediately after promoting?
It says it in the title, I even tried promoting him a couple of times by myself and it still went down to level 4. I got that level bcz of my sims degree btw, maybe that has something to do with it.I also tried quitting and rejoining, and it immediately jumped to lvl 4.

Are you using NRaas SP for story progression? If so, this might be the expected game behavior when another sim occupies certain slots in certain careers. There are two options to look at to understand and undo this feature if you want.
NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Careers > Restrict Some Levels to a Single Sim
NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Careers > Only One May Lead: Allow Active
(SP Career add-on module required for both)
Both are set to True by default. The first one being set to False will hide the second one since it would no longer be relevant. But the way it's intended to work is that for some careers and career levels, the sim moving up has to wait until the sim already in that slot is promoted, demoted, retires, or quits the career in order to move forward.
