IP Ban

Post by eurostile775 » February 27th, 2024, 11:36 pm

Hi! My entire household appears to have been IP banned from the site, and I can only assume it came from me... but as far as I know I haven't broken any rules or done anything sinister. I'm using Firefox, latest version, with a fair few privacy extensions (which I'm happy to disable for nraas if they caused it)! I have no idea if posting my IP publicly is a good idea or not so let me know and I'll PM you.

Thanks for looking into it, and I'm quite happy to co-operate with any questions or disabling of Firefox extensions that might be required :)

IP Ban

I just tried to enter the site on my ipad and was also informed my IP is banned. I can however access the site on my laptop. Same IP in use both times as far as I know. I'm at home. NO vpn.
Why on earth would this happen?

I help run a website for work and we have found banning IP addresses to be very fraught these days, what with dynamic IPs and VPNs everywhere we can end up banning a lot of innocent people while the bad guys just flip on their VPN and carry right on . I wonder if you're encountering similar problems?

PS I'm using Brave btw. No addons I'm aware of

UPDATE. -- looks like it's Safari that Nraas doesn't like. I can log in on my laptop and my ipad using Brave. But if I try to use Safari I am told I am IP banned!

My Safari is pretty up to date I think, so probably not that

IP banning is very effective if done right. Ranges can go, as can VPN services, so there's no flipping on anything to avert. Sure some innocents might get caught but the alternative is to let someone keep flooding the site or being malicious which if done then after a while no one will be able to access it.

Are you getting a Cloudflare page or the one that mentions my email address? If it's mine, can you provide the details from the website it asks to my email?
