Traveling removes career opportunity involving travel.

So my sim has an opportunity from his homeworld job to go to France and interview locals (Exotic Living, I think it was called). But of course, there are no journalism careers in France, so the opportunity disappears when he gets there, as does my sim's ability to do the "interview" interaction.

I've tried a few things, but the opportunity is always gone upon arrival in France and it's still gone when he's back home (and no change in simoleans or job performance as there would be if it was stealthily completed just by traveling to France, like I've seen suggested on other forums).

I thought about placing a journalism rabbithole to see if the presence of the rabbithole made a difference with the opportunity somehow. Like maybe it being there when my sim arrived would help it "stick" even if my sim is still technically on vacation.

But is this even worth trying to figure out, or is this just a known issue with the sims 3? I don't want to spend too much time on it if it's out-and-out broken.

It seems strange that there are so many career opportunities involving travel when there's the obvious issue of careers being nonexistent in the WA worlds, though.

Off the top of my head, these don't require the rabbit hole. The problem usually is the sims it pre-picks to fulfill these are often either aged up or killed on next visit to the world, by travel actions or just aging, especially if it's been a while since you've been, and that cancels it. It's just something EA didn't think through. You could try simulating the world, returning home, triggering the opportunity and then going back and see how it fairs but honestly most of them just aren't worth all that.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I almost never do the travel opportunities because they generally aren't worth the trouble, but in the challenge I'm playing opportunities are one of the few things I can "freely" do, and I was looking forward to getting my sim out of Lucky Palms for a while. But it makes sense that EA didn't think this through.

My sim is a journalist and he was supposed to interview 4 sims for work so it's in the "career opportunity" category which made me think it had something to do with not having a career in France, or maybe not having a rabbithole. I hadn't thought about the targets not being available, or maybe not being simulated at the time of arrival.

I think I will try what you said, simulating the world, maybe by traveling there with no sims, and then going back and traveling my sim. If it doesn't work I'll just...enjoy France for 3 days because hey, I did what I could to fulfill my opportunity, and I'm already there, so. :D
