Sims immediately about to age after lenghtening lifespan?

Post by Elanorea » March 10th, 2024, 3:06 am

So far I've been playing on a normal lifespan and rotating between households while only keeping aging on while I'm playing the 'main' household. Now I thought I'd try having aging on all the time for a change, just with a longer lifespan so I can still keep up with all the families. So I lengthened the lifespan about 5x, but when I did, suddenly all the Sims in town were showing as 0 days from age transition, instead of proportionally where they were through their life stages. Is there some way to avoid this, or a cheat to set a Sim's age to a specific amount of days from aging up? I guess I could just use SP to pause aging for everyone who wasn't at 0 days and age them up manually when they're 'supposed' to, but that seems like a PITA to keep track of.

If you have the Master Controller Cheats module, you can manually change a Sim's age under Intermediate. You can either specify an age in Sim-days (Age:Absolute) or the number of days in their current age-state (Age: Relative.) if you don't mind all Sims going back to the start of their current age-state, you can probably run Age: Relative from City Hall or a computer on all Sims at once, but I haven't tested this so use with caution.

I would suggest running the game past a couple of midngihts first and see if these sims really do age up. The status showing on them now may not be accurate and the days until aging bit may get recalculated. You can always quit without saving if they do end up aging up anyway.

It's generally considered not a great idea to mess with the age stages on an already ongoing game to avoid the aging manager getting so confused. But another approach that may still work without the confusion would be to increase one or two age stages a little at a time, not 5x all across the board, and see what happens every couple of sim days.

In order to set all ages to 0, you'd use Age>Absolute. You can do that for everyone without repercussions. Age>Relative should work fine, too, as the age manager seems to be okay with negative values for age. That's how Ambrosia or munching too much life fruit is handled in-game. I already had young adults that displayed as being of toddler age (regarding the number of days they were allegedly old). It's not reported whether they behaved as such.

Not exactly on topic, but I've always (somewhat) secretly wanted to see what teens and young adult sims who never learned to walk, talk, read, or use the potty and who sat down an the floor and cried when they couldn't route to where they going were like to be around if the game didn't automatically grant those skills to them upon age up from toddlers. From the parents' perspective, I think the best strategy would be for them to marry these sims off as soon as possible. :)

(Disclaimer: not talking about nor trying to make fun of disabilities here, I mean sims who would be perfectly capable of doing these things if someone had the time or could be bothered to teach them how)

Thanks, MC Cheats did the trick.

I did try just letting it run and when it got past midnight the Stuck Aging Check immediately aged up everyone outside the active household.
