How to Move YA Sim and Keep Wishes of Both Families??

Post by emandem » April 30th, 2021, 7:47 pm

I've been playing with the Simovitch family from Riverview for a little bit now (usually I play rotationally but I got tired of it). I want to move Betty out of the household to leave by herself with Bob since they're a couple. I'm unable to figure out how to keep BOTH the family's dreams and opportunities when I move her out. I have some of the nraas mods such as Story Progression, Master Controller, Mover, etc. but from what I've tried, only one of the households gets to have their dreams and opportunities while the other doesn't. I've tried moving her through the phone but that didn't work, and Master Controller and Mover say that I have retained dreams and opportunities set as true but also no luck. Thanks!

How to Move YA Sim and Keep Wishes of Both Families??

Hi there. MasterController's dream catching doesn't have anything to do with moving, only Mover's does. MC has to do with what happens when you use MC to switch active households.

It's odd that Mover's setting isn't being honored though. What happens if you try to split and combine the households through Edit Town, again with Mover and its Retain Dreams options set to True? The mod is supposed to cover those as well.

Thank you for a quick response! I'll try it out right now and see if anything changes. Before I do so, I want to clarify if what I'm thinking is correct since I'm not so good with these types of things. You want me to go to edit town, split the household, meaning I would have 3 family members each (since they're a big family of 6), plot the now two households into different lots, then combine them together again in one house through edit town and see if it works? And making sure Mover and its Retain Dreams and Opportunities is set to true before moving everyone?

Uhm...maybe? I guess I didn't understand your original setup. You have one household that includes Betty among others. You want Betty to move out and into a household that includes Bob, right? Can't you do this all through Edit Town instead of moves by phone/computer?

That's fine I can explain more in detail. Bob and Betty are still living with their parents and siblings. I want Betty to move out first into her own house and then invite him over to ask to move in together. When I tried moving her out using edit town, I believe that all her dreams and opportunities were not there anymore. And when I tried moving her out by phone, I had to choose to make her the active household or else she wouldn't move out by herself. Thus, her having all her dreams and opportunities while the rest of the family didn't when I went to check on them. I think when I was looking around online, people said that moving a sim out through phone/computer won't make them lose their dreams and opportunities, so I tried doing that.

Did you have dream-catching turned on in MC the whole time? I use SP to retain dreams and opportunities for individual households, but when I'm wanting to split/combine those households, I temporarily turn on dream-catching in MC and then use Edit Town to move everyone where I want them to be. It seems like all of households (both original and new) keep their dreams and opportunities through the move (my most recent couple of splits definitely did; they were my oldest households and I double-checked everything after the kids moved out.). I have no idea what my setting is in Mover, so it might be on by default as well.

Afterwards, I use SP to retain dreams/opportunities for the new households and turn it back off in MC to avoid the bloat.

But if that's not working, maybe try turning on dream-catching everywhere (MC and Mover at least) and use Add Sim to move Betty to her new house. It seems like I've had success with that before. Though I'm not sure why Edit Town isn't working for you. :(

Yeah, I think dream-catching was on the whole time in MC. I'm still new to all this so pardon me if I have to keep clarifying what I have to do . I'll try following what you wrote for me and I'll get back to you on it!

After thinking about what you said, I think I realize what you were trying to tell me oops. I'll also try doing that too if we're on the same page.

So I moved tried using your method (splitting and combining them through Edit Town) and Betty's wishes were gone, Bob already didn't have any since I've only been playing with her household. Mover and its Retain Dreams options were also set to True.

Okay, then MC > Add Sim as indignantgirl suggested is about the only thing left to try. I was going to suggest that as well but thought coaxing Mover to do what it sounds like it should was the better way to try first (apparently not).

There may not be any other solution here. The game isn't designed to have Dream Managers running on multiple households as we switch between them in the first place, so we are already bucking the system by having MC and the other mods arrange that for us. Moving and splitting households has always been kind of the weak link in that array of possibilities.

I'm don't know exactly which dreams and opps you are trying to preserve, but if it helps at all if anyone ever feels that their sims got shortchanged on LTR points then that can be adjusted with MC. Of course there is more to the system than just points, but just thought I would mention that. Opps that dropped before they were ever completed can be restarted with MC as well, and credit can be given for their completion using DebugEnabler.
