Script Error when resetting sim (Attempting to yield...)

Post by indignantgirl » September 8th, 2020, 9:53 pm

(Wasn't sure if this should go here or in Error Trap, sorry!)

I got this error when resetting a specific sim, and as a test I went back to a previous save to reset him and I got the same error. (He'd just done a lot of alchemy stuff so I wanted to go back to before that in case something went wrong when he was making potions, but it wasn't that.)

He wasn't doing anything unusual or acting buggy when I reset him; I'd just noticed his homework had disappeared from his inventory sometime after he aged up to teen and he had school the next day so I was hoping to recover it.

The error mentions opportunities, and he does have an open opportunity from when he was still a child. The error also mentions creation protection, which I've seen before but only when I did a reset while a sim was painting.

I'll probably play forward from here and hope he isn't corrupted somehow, but I guess I'll give it a new save name just in case. This is what we got:

Script Error when resetting sim (Attempting to yield...)

Post by igazor » September 9th, 2020, 12:48 am

That's a MC error, not coming from ErrorTrap. The Scavenger Hunt opportunity may be broken and need to be dismissed if it can be, but isn't this one that is associated with (elementary) school and meant to be completed before a sim ages up to teen? It's possible that it was never going to complete after having aged up and it should have been removed on their birthday.

To get your sim's homework back, try a DE Object Reset on them. That is, assuming he has actually completed his first day of high school by now otherwise what got deleted might have been his last day of elementary school homework.

Yeah, I noticed it said MC, and I've only had a few of those before, so it was especially disconcerting.

The scavenger hunt opportunity was definitely an elementary opportunity (we couldn't find the moth), but I thought it was okay to keep working on it since it was still active. I'm surprised it didn't remove itself, since the adult opportunities cancel out if you miss the deadline. But I've removed it now, so hopefully that is all it was.

Also, you were right about the homework, it did respawn after he got home from his first day of high school. See, I've never played a public school kid for any length of time. I've always homeschooled, and they have homework every day, even the weekend, so they would have spawned their first "high school" homework the next morning, even if it was deleted when they aged up.

As always, thank you. :D

My sims don't have issues with finishing that opportunity when they are teens. Not sure whether it helps anything though, so I usually just delete it. In my experience you find moths only during night, often at the graveyard.

The only issue I see with homework is if you, for whatever reason, reset sims. It's like it gets toggled wrong. Those that didn't have homework get one, those that had one lose it. On my age setting, it doesn't matter much though.

I think this opportunity just really dislikes me. Other people said the same as you, to look in the graveyard at night. So I spent actual human hours over several days searching the town, day and night, graveyard and elsewhere, all for a flipping moth and I never could find one. I was determined to finish this opportunity once and for all, no matter how long it took. But, of course, the game had other ideas.

Although, to be fair, it's not always easy for me to see the brightly-colored butterflies in broad daylight so I could have passed right by the moths and never noticed. I just hope that canceling the opportunity fixed whatever the problem was.

In any case, my sim is into alchemy now and used the butterflies as ingredients so at least he got something out of it.

Hmm, the kid that has the opportunity usually sees the map tags for the kind of insect it needs to find (beetles or butterflies, respectively), so it shouldn't be an issue to at least get to the general spot where the moth shows up. Of course, sometimes they are a little hard to spot, like in the bushes behind the SV mausoleum, where I had difficulties finding them although I knew they were there from the map tag.

Curious if you had your game paused when you ran the reset?

He did have the map tags, but there were only ones for the 3 butterflies, none for the moths, day or night, anywhere on the map. I'm playing in Appaloosa Plains, so I guess it's possible there aren't any moth spawners there? But that would be a strange oversight considering it's an opportunity.

Maybe moths are only active during certain seasons. I know that outside the apothecary, there are sometimes fireflies, and sometimes butterflies, but only one at a time.

I...might have. I don't usually, such as when resetting the town or lots. But if I'm trying to catch a specific sim before he goes to use his computer or something I'll pause, click reset, and then unpause. So odds are good that I had it paused at least one of the times I reset.

Not good?

Fireflies at night (like moths), butterflies during the day. I had the opportunity just today, and there were quite a few moths available at several spots on the map. Butterflies and moths were overlapping in the early morning hours. That was SV though.

I'd say that resetting while the game is running is not good. I usually pause everything.
