Pregnancy Conundrum

Post by Vaelis » January 15th, 2024, 2:32 pm

I assume this goes here. This looks like the best spot. So forgive me if its not.

So one of my Sims went on a trip to France and brought back a girlfriend. She was pregnant at the time, or so I thought, but when I got her to move in I guess she wasn't. So I decided to "fix" that with NRaas and try to "pollinate" her with her ex-husband. Well for whatever reason I couldn't find him by normal means. Kept saying he didn't exist, even though I could clearly see him on the relationship tab. I was able to find him in NRaas to invite over, but not for pollination. So I tried one last thing and tried to look for him by surname. I thought this would give me a list like it usually does, instead it just said "successfully pollinated". Now she IS pregnant, but I'm not sure I didn't just impregnate her with herself or, worse, her child son she abandoned in France. I can't end it via NRaas yet for some reason. I suspect it's because she isn't showing yet.

What is the most expedient means to rectify this situation? I don't want to wait out the pregnancy just to find out I cloned her and then have to revert to an older save. But I'm also not familiar enough with NRaas to know what it can do. I'd like the ex-husband to exist, just in France. Is it possible to bring him to my hometown, get his ex pregnant, and send him back? Or can I fix the genetics of the baby after its born? I really have no idea.

The intended father needs to be in the same world as the mother in order for him to sire a child, meaning donate his genetics. And he should not be a tourist (visiting mini-sim), thus inviting him over wouldn't likely work out well. Going back to France where he is a resident should work as should making the intended father a full resident of the homeworld using MC's Add Sim command at least temporarily as that brings in the full-fledged sim and not a visiting mini-sim copy.

This would all be the case regardless of whether you are using Pollinate to initiate a pregnancy, Instant Baby to just make a baby, or MC's PlayWithGenetics command after the sim is born to reset the donating genetics to the two correct sim parents.

An open question is why the sim lost her pregnancy in the first place. Is the Traveler mod in play and is traveling while pregnant allowed in its options in France? Under EA standard, pregnant sims cannot do world travel.

The traveler mod was not installed at the time. I've since changed that. Is there a readme for the Traveler options and settings?

What about tourist/visting sims is different? Why does them traveling cause problems? Why can a tourist not knock-up a local?

Traveler-Interactions
All NRaas mods that actually have menus of options have such an Interactions page.

To clarify here, I'm not talking about sims going through the travel transition as part of the actively controlled household or guests (friends) brought along by way of the Traveler mod. I'm talking about nonplayed sims visiting from other worlds, invited by the player or brought in by the game to add flavor to your currently played homeworld and controlled by the Register mod. Regardless of how they got there, if they didn't go through the travel transition with the actively played household, sims visiting from other worlds are called either Tourists or, in the case of visitors to the WA worlds, Explorers.

Either way, these are mini-sim representations of the "real" sims that only exist in their own homeworlds. They do not bring anywhere near all of the data each full-fledged sims would have. To see this, and in fact to test if a sim standing before you is a mini-sim or not, try bringing them into CAS or a subset of CAS like Plan Outfit or MC Stylist. If they are a mini-sim, you can't. Tourists do not have a wardrobe, they only travel with the clothes on their backs with temporary outfits generated as needed for sleeping, swimming, etc., and they do not bring their genetics with them.

In order for their genetics to be used, the dad of sim needs to be present as a full-fledged sim in the world where the birth is taking place. Or, failing that, in the world when MC's PlayWithGenetics function is used.
