that's it -> you are right, deleting the first pet seems the issue. Endless loading, no UI, I have to quit the game via taskmanager.
And delete all files in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\CurrentGame.sims3 too (always when quit via taskmanager).

But then it can be easily avoided :D never delete the first pet in the line and everything is fine.

Errors in Create A Household

Post by Cassie » August 20th, 2023, 8:45 am

I've never experienced this problem, but although I usually play overstuffed households, I rarely have many pets in them.

So I've asked my daughter about her experience while playing Warrior Cat clans. She has never experienced the current problem, possibly due to better hardware. But she doesn't create such huge households in one go without exiting the game inbetween. She usually creates a modest household and places that in the 'camp,' then creates a new household with a random human and some more cats, places that on a random lot, MC adds the cats to the camp and TA's the human.

It might also help to create the cats one at a time, save them to bin, exit CAH and preferably the entire game, then go back to CAH and pull those cats from the bin into your household without editing anything. You'd have to experiment with this a bit to see how many cats you can create and safe before the game becomes unstable and you need to exit and reload.

This is not a hardware issue, as I think cardinalsims and my are more than pretty good, and I created 1 sim + 9 pets in my test today without any problems.

You need to test, add 1 sim and many pets, then delete the FIRST pet after the sim.

The issue does not happen if you don't do this, or delete next pets after the first. So you might not encounter the issue like me, because I don't even create any pets in CAS, I have my eternal ones :)

Valid, I shouldn't assume anything while troubleshooting, my bad.

I wasn't trying to recreate the issue, merely asked the experience of a player who I know used to play Warrior Cats like OP is trying to do. Since we've established the issue exists, and is not hardware related, I was just trying to find a work-around for OP to enable them to achieve their goal of creating a WC clan household with many cats.

honestly i think there might be a way to fix the issue when it happens within create a household, ive managed to do that a couple times but im not entirely sure how. maybe clicking the sim instead of one of the pets and then clicking the check mark? though it might only happen when you had 2 pets and then deleted one, leaving only one pet left. i'll test later today i think

No it also happens when you even have 9 pets created and a sim first, but only when deleting the first created pet. As I tested and described earlier.

You simply should not delete the first pet in the line. Why do you need to delete, when you can change the pet

Why this happens?
No one knows.

why are you explaining to me what i figured out in the first place? i have been describing that exact thing the whole time, and it is hurtful that you only listened when cardinalsims explained it to you. i know that the issue happens when you have a bunch of pets. i was the one testing the issue and having it in the first place. i meant that avoiding having it break your game, which consists of pressing the accept household button successfully and even being able to get the ui back upon going back to edit the same household, may only happen when you end up with only one pet after deleting the other, or when you click on the sim instead of another pet. it fixed itself a few times while i was testing the issue before but i dont know exactly what fixed it yet, so i need to test more. at some point later today i will test multiple configurations of pets and sims and determine which situations the issue occurs in, and whether theres a foolproof way for it to fix itself

oh also, you dont have to quit via task manager. you can simply tab out of the game and close the window, and it will bring up the "do you want to close without saving" box and then you press "yes". the game isnt frozen, it just doesnt let you click any of the buttons

I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding :) Some users are using English as their second language, so multiple explanations are always useful to help everyone follow along and contribute. Even those of us who aren't can misread things from time to time. I believe your follow up was just misinterpreted.

I've had a few hunches about what could be causing it, but I'm not a programmer so they aren't very technical. It's almost like the pet who triggered Create a Pet to load is also tied to that instance, so it cans them both on deletion. I'll also look into if there's a specific action that can get the game to reload them properly.

ah ok my bad, i didnt consider that possibility. apologies, c-dark, if it was just a misunderstanding

i think its got something to do with switching between cas and cap honestly, since the issue doesnt happen every time and when it doesnt, you see the sim's ui pop up for a second. i think it tries switching from cap to cas despite the next pet being the one it is meant to bring up next and sometimes doesnt manage to correct itself. if you delete the first pet but dont have a sim, the ui doesnt even collapse. if you reverse it and have one pet at the start and a bunch of sims that you delete one by one, the ui behaves the same. also i think both mods and fullscreen mode do worsen the issue, because it didnt happen at all while i was testing that, im in windowed mode but still just have the freshly reinstalled game without mods. i'll put my documents/sims 3 folder and everything back next, in order to test how to make the issue fix itself and test whether the ui disappears when youre deleting sims to the left of a pet

also i just noticed, you can see that the white outline indicating the selected icon at the bottom briefly goes to the sim after deleting the pet and then goes to the pet it brings up, and it ALSO goes to the pet on the left when youre deleting a pet who isnt next to a sim. i didnt notice that before. i guess the game gets confused about which pet/sim its supposed to be going to once one is deleted, but that only causes an issue when one is in cap and one is in cas?
