Script mods not working - help, please!

Post by Ellamaniacal » February 5th, 2023, 5:28 am

Howdy :) First post. Anyway. Running Sims 3 version 1.69 on Win 11. I have only base game and Late Night, purchased and downloaded from the EA Store/launcher (same as Sims 4, not the old one). I followed the steps verbatim found in the tutorials here and on MtS.

CC files are installing and showing up just fine, but script mods are not. When I first tested the nosparkles and nointro scripts, they worked fine. Then I loaded in my other package files, per the instructions in the tutorial, and even the nosparkles and nointro stopped working. The game wouldn't load at all, just try to load and exit itself back to the EA launcher. Then I moved the cfg file *into* the Mods\Packages folder and the game loaded. But still no script mods. I can't figure out what else to do, or why the cfg causes the game to crash when it's in the technically right place, but loads fine when it's in a different place. I have deleted the cache package files every time, as instructed, but still no change.

ETA: I was mistaken - the .package CC is NOT showing up in game, even though the sims 3 installer cc is showing up. So not just script mods being absent, all .package files being absent. O.o I'm stumped.

Please let me know if y'all require more info, or if there are other things to try. I can play without the script mods, but I'd rather have them.

Thanks so much!

Hi!

If resource.cfg is in Mods/Packages (or anywhere other than the Mods folder), it will not work and therefore mods will not load. Show the contents of resource.cfg and which mods you are trying to run.

Thank you! Here's pics of the requested info. Uploader is being weird, too. >< Here's a link to the pics on my drive - I hope this works and is okay to link.

The weird thing I couldn't figure out is that if the resource.cfg file is in the mods folder, the whole game won't load. If it's in the mods\packages folder, the game will load but the .package mods won't.

This is normal, in the first case you probably have a mod that requires a certain add-on or something else, because of this the game crashed, in the second - the packages are not loaded because of the lack of resource.cfg in the right place.

Sorry about the images. Thought permissions were correct. ><

I'll check out the mods and make sure I'm not missing a piece, move the cfg back, then try again. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! Will update.

Whew! 8 hours later.... Painstaking process to test every single mod... found ONE random, independent script mod that mucked up the whole works. Removed that, thoroughly tested every single other mod, and now they're working. /sigh

For the record, it was the "lizcandorPolyamory_v1.package" that wasn't working.

Thanks for the help - it really did help :)
