Something is preventing female teens from aging to YA

Post by lytefoot » December 9th, 2022, 2:17 am

It seems that something in my game is preventing female teens from aging to YA. I noticed this when I tried to age a teen in my household to YA, but it appears to have been applying to all female teens since I started. Babies, toddlers, and children of both genders can age up, and male teens can age to YA. A male teen in my active household has successfully aged to YA, and there are NPC male YAs in my game that were previously teens. However, I have no female YAs in my game that are old enough to have been teens, and I now see that there are several female teens in my game with negative days left in the stage.

When I try to age up my active household teen--I've tried using Master Controller, using birthday cake, and by waiting until 9pm when she ages automatically--I get the camera pan and birthday announcement, and she claps and swings a noisemaker, then nothing happens. ErrorTrap doesn't generate an error, but I get an error from Selector when I click anything with her as active sim--all other sims in the household work just fine. If I reset her, that clears the Selector error, and all her hair and outfits are replaced with random ones.

If I trigger age up on an inactive female teen, they briefly show their status as NpcAgeUpSituation, then they're briefly off-world, then they reappear with their hair and outfits randomly replaced, still teens.

None of the sims involved are pregnant, though Story Progression does appear to have given offspring to some of the super-aged teens.

Once i realized all female teens were impacted, I thought the obvious culprit might be that I had screwed up a setting on Woohooer or Story Progression, but I tried removing both of these mods and it didn't solve the problem. Has anyone else here seen this issue and knows what causes it and/or how to fix it? (I'll do systematic trouble shooting on my mods folder tomorrow, but I'm hoping that this has happened to someone else and they can just hand me the solution instead...)

This is usually caused by bad custom content, and it's even more likely given that all female teens are having the same issue. So try removing all your cc first, then changing all the clothing and accessories as well as the hairstyle(s) on your active teen, then aging her up. It's a good idea to MC reset her after changing her outfits and before attempting the age transition as well. You can work with a backup copy of your save so your main one doesn't lose all its cc.

If this works, you can quit without saving, then start reintroducing cc until you find out which item is the problem. It's not always obvious which cc would cause this, for example it might be a miscategorized item that you don't even think is applying to teens. If you have a lot of cc to go through, the 50/50 method (as in, a binary sort) can make the process more efficient.

Okay, yep. Turns out the NRAAS suite and all the stupid things I coerced my game into doing were totally innocent.

Instead, I'd eaten a big ol' bowl of stupid-o's and didn't read the instructions on some default replacements, resulting in 2-3 conflicting defaults for nearly every AF clothing article. It's frankly a miracle my game was running at all.

That seems a bit harsh considering how easy a mistake this is to make.

But yeah, not related to sims but I think I've been eating a couple of bowls of those myself every morning, in my sleep I guess, for the past week or two. Or at least, that's what it feels like much of the time. :|

I think most of us have been there at some point, I mean doing something silly to the game we didn't consider and then feeling stupid as a result. But it's not stupid to make that mistake the first time; how else do you learn?

Anyway, I'm glad you got it fixed. And igazor, I'd say I've been there lately too, but that implies past tense, which doesn't seem accurate.
