Installing Older Expansion Packs

Post by Tactician_M » December 29th, 2021, 3:16 pm

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to mods and I had a question about installing older expansion packs. I recently installed The Sims 3 via Origin (I'm not new to The Sims 3 but it is new for this computer), so no CDs were used. I'm also playing on Windows 10, I have the latest game patch, and I'm using the most recent patch of nraas Story Progression. The most recent expansion pack I have is Seasons, but with the recent Origins sale, I'm looking to buy World Adventures and University Life.

My question is if I install these older packs on Origins, will I run into any problems with either the Sims game patches or the Story Progression patches? And is there anything I have to do with the Mods folder when installing a new expansion pack?

Thank you!

You'll be fine installing the older packs. Origin-only installs and patching work the same regardless of the release order of the packs. NRaas mods also work fine when adding new packs. You should definitely delete the cache files though:
  • CASPartCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • scriptCache.package
  • simCompositorCache.package
  • socialCache.package
However, it's a good idea to back up your Sims 3 user folder, the one in Documents\Electronic Arts, before running the game with the new packs. That way, if you have any weird issues, you can grab a backup copy of a save or other file if you happen to need it later.
