Go Here broke Alien Abductions in my game

Post by Draganies » April 18th, 2020, 8:25 am

This topic is actually relevant to discussions on Returner and Debug Enabler but the problem is with Go Here so I was very uncertain where to post this. I hope this is the right place.

Ive seen a lot of questions in Returner and Debug Enabler about trying to get sims abducted with no luck. No one has posted to Go Here about aliens but, in my setup at least, Go Here is what broke alien abductions.

Removing Go Here allows the debug option on the mailbox to work and solves the problem of setting the AlienUtils xml to 100% but still not getting abducted.

I dont have any questions but I think others would like to know this and I'm trying to get the word out. I hope its helpful.

How old is the sim? They have to be at least a teen. And are you on a small lot say 20x20 or smaller, is the lot yard cluttered with a lawn furniture and other stuff? The abduction scenario needs a large amount of space to actually take place.

Young adult, large lot with tons of room in front of the house, it's connected to the road (I saw that mentioned as a possible issue in another thread).

BUT I was wrong. When I took Go here out, the debugging command suddenly worked. I test played it for about 7 sim days ( all the way through summer and a day or two into fall). Unfortunately, I started a new game aaand.. it's back to being broken. I tested it periodically, just to be extra sure and it was working and then just this last time (winter, day after the holiday, which I have set to Wednesday) it won't work.

I keep getting it to work temporarily but it seems like as time goes on (in game), it gets more and more broken. I would 100% be willing to learn programming (or whatever is necessary) to figure this out, if I knew where to start. The aliens are one of my favorite things in Sims!

I'm going to start all over with a fresh game and document everything I do. Maybe I can figure it out. If anyone has any idea what kind of knowledge I would need to investigate further, please let me know. I'm serious, I've already started work on a compTIA cert for other reasons, I am determined to figure this out! (But obviously, I'm still very painfully new to the field).

Guess we'll have to wait and see what Chain has to say. By the way which version of GoHere do you have?

The newest version, as far as I know. I downloaded it about a month ago, I think.

Go Here broke Alien Abductions in my game

I have had abysmal luck finding a solution in a new test game. Its just MC, MC cheats and Debug Enabler. I thought maybe it had something to do with newly created households. I recently learned that move-in scenarios won't occur with the create a household option. This clued me in that things could be different between existing residents, bin households and new households. So I chose a household to try it out with.
The debug abduction broke after the 5th day (the first holiday). It was only the 4th time I'd done it. I played an entire in game year trying to find a solution and nothing made it work for that sim again. Interestingly, when I switched to a neighbor (which I did severals times) it worked every time until I had the main testing sim travel to France and come back. Then the neighbor 'broke' also and I never could fix it for him either.

I had noticed in the game I originally posted about, that adding new sims to the lot helped. The debug option began working again but it never abducted the original sim only the new ones. So the problem is clearly (I think) with the individual sim.

It still stands out to me that in the game I originally posted about, removing Go Here worked. I tested it several times. Adding it back in consistently stopped the debug option from working but even without Go Here, new games still eventually break. No other mod had this consistent effect (or any at all that I could tell).

I noticed another thing. In the Newest test game, when the debug option broke, it broke completely (as far as I could tell). When I clicked it, nothing happened. However, in the game I originally posted about it didn't break completely. The interaction still showed up in the que and the sim would stop where they were and idle in place until the interaction ended but the lights, ship and alien never appeared. In at least two instances, when I checked on the personal status of the aliens during this non-working situation, it said at least one of the aliens was in an abduction situation. So the debug option was at least partly working.

Around the same time that Debug abductions stopped working, debug visit began having problems too. The alien would come to the lot but get to the door and freeze. The only way to fix the alien was to reset it.
These two strange behaviors seemed like they could be routing issues. That's part of the reason I was so sure it had to do with Go Here and felt comfortable posting here. I don't actually know how Go Here works or what it changes though; does it even make sense that it could have an impact like this?

I feel like these must be useful data points. This has to be a clue about what is going wrong but I don't know where to go with that information. Maybe it will be helpful to others.

I am continuing to come up with other things to try so I'll keep updating incase any of it is helpful unless I shouldnt?

I meant to ask, is this problem with the aliens very widespread? Or is it just some people that experience this problem? Does anyone know?

Where those the only mods you had installed or where they the only Nraas mods installed. Something isn't right if it was GoHere causing the problem it should only happen when it's installed.

igazor do you have any ideas on what could be happening?

Afraid I have nothing on this one and we'll have to wait for Chain to comment. The backstory in my case is that I don't really care about alien abductions in my own game and see them as more of an annoyance than a treasured feature to embrace more fully. But that's just me, I guess. :|

Go Here broke Alien Abductions in my game

There's nothing in GoHere that would cause this that I'm aware of but something I don't suspect could obviously. Of course if it's failing without GoHere then GoHere isn't the cause. Alien abductions are very finicky. There's a large number of conditions that have to be met before it will work some of which include:

1) An obnoxiously large area for a jig to be placed on the lot or the road adjacent to the mailbox.
2) The Sim to be abducted has to be on their home lot.
3) They cannot be running any user directed interaction nor can they be using the bathroom or eating.
4) They cannot be a celebrity unless they are friends with the alien.
5) If they are on a houseboat, it must be docked.

If you're not using tagger, install it and make sure all Sim tags are showing. Trigger the abduction and pause the game. Go into map view and see if you can find the alien's map tag show up somewhere far away from the home lot. If you don't see it spawn, check with MasterController that you have aliens in the alien household. Also check that they have their UFO's in their inventory because those are required too. If it despawns soon after spawning and they have a UFO, you're likely running up against one of the numerous requirements.
