Script Error/CTD with custom neighborhood

Post by CroweFeather » December 6th, 2023, 10:23 pm

Wow... that's a new record. I didn't even make it 10 whole minutes before a CTD. I had Task Manager open and I was nowhere near 3GB+. I sat at 1.7GB. The last thing I can think of removing are Missy Hissy's custom careers. Other than that, I feel like I've just about exhausted all of my options? I'm so confused.

EDIT: That didn't work either. At this point I've decided to go nuclear. I saved the families and houses I needed, and then I deleted the neighborhood and the saves associated with it. I downloaded a new copy of the neighborhood and save, and I'll try this again tomorrow with an attempt to reinstall/start over. (insert frustrated sigh here)

Script Error/CTD with custom neighborhood

Rather than looking for the needle in the haystack, I think the next option would be to test with nothing but the world itself and its required CC package installed.
Including removing any other launcher installs except the world. You can do this by moving your DCCache folder to a temporary location- the custom world will have to be reinstalled of course. The old folder can safely be placed back after testing to restore that content.

As we may come to all kinds of conclusions without actually knowing if it's the world itself with an element that causes a crash, or rather that it has triggered a pre-existing issue by coincidence.

I just so happened to be at my computer and getting ready to reinstall everything when I got your post notification. I did as you asked, and surprise, CTD. I moved DCCache, reinstalled the world and required CC, and started a brand new save with that world. Nope. I thought everything was going well because I had almost gotten to 30 minutes of play time before it CTD.

It has been a while since my last post. I presume there's no further troubleshooting that can be offered? I know my error case is a particularly strange one.

Did you try the world CardinalSims recommended?

Will you get a crash too when using only nraas mods and play a test with another world?

It can also be that you have another outdated mod, or a mod which requires ITF.

If you don't get crashes outside of this world and its included CC, I would have to conclude that the issue is with those rather than with something you are doing wrong or something that can be fixed on your end.
It surprises me, as it seems to have had a few testers, but modding is also an imperfect art. I'm sure things still sneak in that only certain users end up revealing. Are the crashes totally random, or is there anything you can think that connects them? Such as what you were doing at the time of the crash or leading up to it.

Troubleshooting can be a little tedious and go in a few circles, but if you still have the enthusiasm to test I can continue to suggest things to check :)
I am curious about the mention of placing lots as well- did you place custom lots in the no-CC test as well? We had another thread of a custom world that was crashing on adding custom families and homes, which makes me wonder if we're seeing some kind of issue getting stuck to exports or if it's a coincidence.

Hi C-Dark! Hi CardinalSims! Thank you for getting back to me. I apologize for the late response; it's been very busy at the veterinary hospital I work at.

As for the game: Looking back at the Simsville requirements are World Adventures, Supernatural, and Late Night. No store objects. Everything needed for the CC file is included.

I can try installing ITF and see if that may help. A long time ago, when the EA App was giving users a hard time, ITF would stall mid-way through while everything else had installed just fine with no issue. Because I wasn't particularly drawn to ITF is why I let it go by the wayside. Hopefully now it'll install and not give me grief lol.

I did as CardinalSims suggested a while back and still had CTD. The CTD would happen randomly, so I'm not confident I could try to pinpoint a potential trigger. I would still like to troubleshoot this. I'm sorry if I've become a nuisance. First, I'll start by trying to get ITF to work. Secondly, I'll play one of my other saves and see if I run into the same problem. Third, I'll try Simsville again with *only* Nraas mods and the CC file. I'll also leave out the custom lots and families, too. I had downloaded the Valentino's, Jones's, Hatfields, and Snooty Patooty to round out the neighborhood and make it complete. I'll do another sweep of my mods, too, just to make sure I didn't miss any that need updates.

The original posts list those expansions as the hard requirements for the world itself to look correct, but notes that every pack was used throughout the builds in town. They've assumed that it will be safe to let the game replace other minor objects, which is usually true, but it's certainly possible they've overlooked a bit of the CC having a requirement that is less safe to leave in the game. Double checking with ITF is a good idea, even just to rule that out.

Not a nuisance at all :) You are the one that has to do all the testing, after all. We get the easy part!
