NRAAS Saver

Post by mahoganywood28 » April 30th, 2019, 8:18 pm

Hello there, I'm having an issue with SAVER. When I first downloaded it, it was a life saver for me. It worked perfectly and I was able to play longer and save with ease. Yesterday morning I had to do an ORGIN update, and Saver isn't working so great anymore. The save error is back in full force. I removed SAVER from my MODS folder and re-downloaded it, but it's still only allowing me two save two times, before the save error forces me to shut down. I used to be able to save much more. What is the problem? I need this Mod to work for me again. Please help.

The mods should not have anything to do with Origin, in an otherwise perfect world anyway, and Saver does not actually perform the save or change the way in which the saves happen. It's really just a scripted alarm clock that suggests when it is time to Save/Save As and (optionally) suggests the next name in sequence when your saves are numbered.

What kind of error are you getting exactly after two saves? Do you have sufficient space available on the drive where you are saving?

Hey Igazor, thanks for your reply. I have almost one terrabyte of space on my hard drive. I'm getting that error 12 save error, that I was getting before I installed Saver. I assumed Saver was the reason why I was able to save more than usual before that error popped up, and wouldn't let me save my game. Now I'm getting two, no more than three saves, even when Saver pops up and tells me to save. That wasn't happening before. It just started happening once I did that Origin update. So if Origin isn't the culprit, then what is I wonder?

Error 12 is an out of usable resources condition. It's usually RAM, but it can be other resources. Either you do not have sufficient RAM available to service the game after the session goes on for a while or, much more common, you have plenty on your system but the game is reaching its 32-bit limit of just under 4 GB (actually it's ~3.7 GB due to some overhead). If the game reaches for more than it can possibly address, then it will either crash or Error 12 upon trying to save.

Where Saver helps is by prompting/reminding us to save more often than without it, thus releasing some of the RAM that the game might be holding onto. It's not a cure-all though, more of a helpful mechanism.

So when you start up your game, the mods load, and the game clock starts moving forward smoothly, according to Task Manager, how much RAM (in MB/GBs, not %) is the game using? And again after an hour or two of play or after a save or two, where does the RAM usage level off at? And how much do you have to work with, in total?

Which world(s) are you playing and and does it make any difference if you start a new test game in a gentle to play world such as Sunset Valley, Riverview, or Twinbrook or does the same thing happen?

I have no idea how to clock RAM usage. I'm playing in Paradise Island, it's honestly the only world I play in. With Saver I was getting in hours of uninterrupted play. I was able to save and keep going for hours. But now, it's back to the way it was before. Sigh. Let me know how to check for usage and I'll do it tomorrow when I play again.

When the game is not taking up the entire fullscreen, right-click on the task bar (the part at the bottom in Windows, in between the Start Menu on the far left and the system clock on the far right) to bring up the Task Manager. On the Processes tab, click the column heading to sort by Memory usage (this is RAM) and TS3.exe should be at the top since it would likely be using more RAM than anything else while the game is running. On some versions of Windows, you might have to right click on the Memory column to change the values displayed from percentages to actual values in MBs or GBs.

You don't have to do any fancy logging or generate charts for this, just if you could examine and report on the amounts being used at various points like after startup and again after you have played for a while. If routine play brings your RAM usage up above let's say 3 or 3.2 GB, then we would have to talk about how many residents your world has, are there frequent and complicated Edit Town and CAS sessions happening within each session, and why your game might otherwise be using so much. If your RAM usage seems fine and stable, then we would have to look for other reasons why the game is so readily and suddenly running out of usable resources.

Hey Igazor Thank you for the reply.

I briefly played the game last night but not for long. It only allowed me to save twice before I got the error 12, sigh. I did do what you asked and checked the memory usage while I played. At the start of the game the memory usage was at 20.4%. It was at 21.5% after the first save, and after the second save it was at 24.5%. I really don't have that many families, as I had to do the NEW GAME start over 3 times, so lost some families. I wasn't able to save then from the last games.

I have two Apartment buildings with 8 tenants in each, And I have four other families, that are two people each. That's only 24 characters. I do recolor often, and I am still building community lots. I don't know what this means, but I copied it from Processes. 7.6/24.0 GB.

Please read my instructions again. I asked for readings on how much RAM the game is using under various situations, in actual MB/GBs, not as percentages, and provided instructions on how to see those vaues. And that's not the total percentage of RAM that your entire system is using, I mean only the TS3 executable.

Sorry, but I still have no idea how much RAM your game is calling for. The percentages do not provide enough information. I can do up a screen shot of the Task Manager if you need to see that, but it will have to be later as I'm not in front of my simming computer right now.

I took photos of a few things from Task Manager. Hopefully one of these images is what you need. I only got one save this time, before save error 12 happened. How do I get them to you?
