It's a shame we can't play Butlers, maids, sitters or handymen/women or even repo sims, It would be kind of cool to visit various sims and interact in their homes.
Each player has their own tastes, but I'd never have thought that someone really wants to scrub the toilets of other characters. And yes, I already imagine the main dreams of their lives associated with such careers...

Sort of like you do with the fashion and home design careers, but you wouldn't have to spend hours in CAS and can actually play. They could plan things like cleanup after a big party or actually have the house flood and the handy sim has to fix it up and clean up, things like that.
One of those we can help with. The Careers Mod Self-Employed module allows for a Handysim career. It's not the same as the Service Sim category, but by going to a computer they get an assignment to visit their next customer in town, the game camera focuses on the lot to tell you whose it is, and then must go over when someone is home to greet them and figure out/fix what is broken. Sometimes it's obvious like we find a washing machine overflowing with suds, a sink/shower spraying water all over the place, or a television or stereo with smoke coming out of it. But sometimes we can never figure out what we were sent there for or the sims living there must have done the repairs themselves and we end up randomly upgrading something for the customer instead for which we still get paid. But they do make a lot of friends along the way. It's kind of funny (but sad) when the customer's household has no cash and the handysim doesn't get paid, the on-screen notification says something like "Thanks that looks great and sorry, we're broke right now but we'll catch up with ya next time!" but I would also know this in advance by way of Tagger.

We don't have to abide by the computer's assignments though and can go visit any home or community lot in town and upgrade stuff along the way. Some of my public libraries have over 12 computers in them and my handysim can always go over there and repair or upgrade those with the town footing the bill when there's no other customers. They can also scrub toilets if they want to, although the customers tip extra for a handysim who cleans up after a job is done I don't think this really counts as part of the job unless the toilet was actually what was broken. :)

Oh, how cute, I guess after that active sim with an understanding smile leaves the house, wishing the poor residents speedy financial successes. But true-service sim in this situation would steal any liked object. The description of all this sounds interesting, but is there any detailed description of what exactly this module includes? I had some ideas and desires about one career. What if suddenly what I wanted already exists?

Well scrubbing toilets isn't really a dream job, but I just think it would add dimension to the game and give more options. Most people have to start some where in life with jobs and I was thinking of it more about interacting with new sims. But I was also thinking of bulters/maids having affairs with the household members and stuff like that as well. I just wish they were more interactive at least.
However, I personally like to clean things (not necessarily toilets) but if I were a sim I'd have the neat trait for sure. And I was thinking if it were an active job sims would have more to do, like maybe show what a home really looks like after a wild party and then the housekeeper would have to clean it all up, make them challenging.

One thing that bugs me currently are things like we are supposed to be able to click the babysitter and fire her or cuss her out for doing a bad job, but I personally have never been able to get my sims to talk to them at all, once they arrive all options are there, but grayed out. They just leave when my sims get home and we are unable to communicate. Something I always found odd since most people would certainly interact with someone watching their kids! I guess the only way it really works is to hire them over while your sims are at home, but I've never felt the need to do such a thing. If they are home, my sims take care of their own kids.

I do like Igazors handyman idea, so I may look into that.

I haven't played the Daycare profession since last year but I always had my neighbors drop off/pick up their kids in person at my Sims house. Is yours a community lot Daycare? Just want to make sure I know what to expect if I attempt this in my latest game.

No, it's a personal residence. It all works fine when the daycare is my active family. Sims drop their toddlers off around 9am or so.
In this thread what I'm referring to is when one uses the "Go Here" mod to keep the daycare open when they are not the active family.

When I go to play another family in town, I like to try and keep the daycare open and other sims, in theory, will still use it even though it's not the active lot. It's not always consistent, however. What I've also found is if you leave the daycare family to play another family, when you come back to that lot and make it active you have to wait a day or two before sims start dropping toddlers off again. But often times I still do get a steady stream of school-age kids after 3 pm during open hours, just not the toddlers for some reason.

But whenever I just play the daycare family, things go along fine, at least until there are not nearby toddlers or parents with toddlers who work in the daytime. Not sure what's up with that either. I know in the vanilla game you'd often just stop getting toddlers after a certain period of time. It was really annoying. But mods have kept things running much better. At least most of the time.

Daycare question, again...

Thanks for clearing that up. I've never tried sending them to the Daycare lot when I wasn't playing the active family on it. In my last Daycare play, one of the reasons I made the mother take on that career was because she had the Surrounded by Family LTW and I figured if she had to be home anyway with 5 kids, she might as well make the most of her time. What I didn't count on was that every time she was pregnant the game closed her daycare! But it worked out fine in the end as she had triplets followed by twins, and then a single, so she was a busy enough Mom that I just had her become a Homemaker.
One thing I did notice in my current game is that the house across the road from my active family kept having their toddler home alone! I didn't think the game would allow this, but I guess it does. Funny thing is it's their grandson and I needed to age him up and his parents weren't home for them to visit.
I wish grandparents or aunts etc.could be asked to babysit like neighbors in Sims 2. Or volunteer to do so. Does anyone know if there is a mod for that?

That FAQ page is here on the new site, but it's a bit twisted around. If you ignore the placement of "What is in the Self-Employed careers package?" entry, it should really say that at the top of the page, then it will read the same way as the page on the old site that it came from.

Thank you, igazor, turns out I was looking for it in the wrong place. I found something interesting for myself, but I'd like a career related to the skill that was included in the content from the store.

I'm not aware of any mod for that, but that would be a really cool idea. I wish family was more of a thing in The Sims, like they come visit and stay for dinners etc. Including help with sitting..etc. Like give us the option for a sitter of "call grandparents to sit" or "call aunt/uncle to sit"
Sadly "family" in the sims just act like any other sim, except having the romantic options. Of course that is, unless they are related by marriage to a degree. That's something I have gone into at length on here when I had Grandpa flirting with his 'by marriage' grand-kids (once they became YA). And not a recent marriage either, he changed their diapers! :-o I think the family tree needs to be a better and a more like real life. LOL. Anyone who raises you from an infant, blood related or not, IS family IMO and I think that's true for most of us. Though I'm sure one could find the exception to just about anything.
