SP/Schools question re: active sims not honouring Formalwear setting

Post by JumbleSailor » January 16th, 2019, 5:14 pm

Hi everybody, and congratulations to the Nraas team for producing such a wonderful suite of mods! :)

I have a question regarding Story Progression and how it can be configured in such a way that child/teen sims can be assigned a uniform ("Formalwear") on being 'pushed' to school.

The setup I have used is to make the relevant schools "eligible for public" (their default setting iirc); to assign formalwear for those schools using the SP menus at City Hall; and to do a quick initial check that the relevant sims are registered at said schools. (To be clear: I am not using the "trade schools" Careers module here- just the vanilla elementary/high which comes with Sunset Valley.) So far, so good: all relevant inactive sims are turning up at school in Formalwear. :)

HOWEVER. I have an active family with two teen sims registered at the high school, and try as I might, I cannot get them to honour these settings. In fact, even if I manually switch them to Formalwear, as soon as the school bus arrives, they 'spin' back into Everyday on being pushed to school!

Would anybody have any idea what might be happening here and if/how it could be remedied?

Thanks in advance! :)

SP/Schools question re: active sims not honouring Formalwear setting

Hi there.

The relevant setting should be NRaas > SP > General Options > Options:Careers > Options:School > Public School Formalwear > T/F (is False by default)
(SP Career add-on module required)

It sounds like that is the setting you have already found though. There shouldn't be any need to worry about who is registered for which school if you only have the one building that houses the one public school for children and the one for teens, as there wouldn't be any other schools in town for them to attend and the game makes children and teens be registered for school someplace.

If your actively being played teens are just not going to cooperate with that setting, you do have the option of copying an instance of their formal outfit to everyday thus giving them an everyday outfit that at least looks formal. But either way it sounds like you will be spending some time manually changing these sims' outfits.

Hi there, Igazor, and many thanks for your quick response- I've read many a thread with you contributing in them!:)

Yes- I've considered using the "copy to Everyday" method you suggest, and will probably use that workaround; I guess I just wasn't entirely sure if there was a better way of doing this which would be automated- certainly not a game-breaker for me.
Thanks for your help! :)

As a side (unrelated) comment, I'd like to point out that I play TS3 on Linux using SteamPlay (picked it up in the Steam Christmas sale, having previously only played console versions of The Sims 1/2/3 which are of course very different from theIr respective PC versions): barring a little tweak to bypass the launcher, my experience has been flawless. If anybody reading this wishes to do the same, see details here:

The code for this looks fine and I don't see any blocks on active Sims. It does look like for some reason they have to be standing up when they get the push to go to school otherwise some other code runs that may be causing the problem due to the carpool. Is that perhaps the oddity tripping you up?

Ooh- perhaps, Chain_Reaction; I'll try a few little tests later (oh, the benefits of having a pair of twins as my guinea sims...😆):

1) One standing, one seated just prior to push, with both wearing Everyday (to see if they spin into Formal);
2) Same as (1) , except both in Formal prior to push (to see if they spin back into Everyday);
3) One standing (Everyday), one seated (Formal) prior to push;
4) One standing (Formal), one seated (Everyday).

Let the experiments commence!😉
