Play with genetics question

Post by kkaizer » January 15th, 2019, 6:07 pm

Hi,

I just have a question about "play with genetics" in mastercontroller. I know that in the sims 3, a newborn can have genetics from their grand parents and it had happened in my game before but I'm wondering if "play with genetics" also uses genetics from grandparents.

I have been using this option for all my sims a lot since I felt that sometimes it's just a clone of one of the parents with the regular sims 3 genetic system...
Maybe I'm wrong but that's what I have often felt.... Correct me if i'm wrong...

Ohhhh and i'm wondering if you are still working on "Chemistry" mod. I have read it somewhere here in this bulletin before and I have been so excited about it. :) Hope you haven't given up on it...

MC's Play With Genetics uses whichever genetics system is in play for newborns at the time. If not SP with the SP Population module's Advanced Genetics, then it would use EA's. I'm not sure that grandparents' genetics are really invoked under EA standard. But regardless, and even with SP's Population's Advanced Genetics in play, I still get a fair number of clones this way but far fewer than without. I just re-roll a few times until I see something that looks like an acceptable blend or (rarely) accept the single parent clone as something like this happens in real life occasionally as well . Note that if the target sim is still younger than teen it will be difficult to really see what the results of PWG are fully but you can "age up" the target to teen or YA to get more of a peek at what they will look like. This doesn't really age up the sim, only the PWG preview you are seeing.

Chemistry and other mod development has been on hold for a while as establishing and running the site took more of our developer's priority time. Chain would have to weigh in on what his plans are for the mod going forward. :)

I believe genetics from grandparents are a part of EA's system. I played a game last year without mods (lack of internet forces that on one sometimes :-o. The shock. The horror.) with a CAS created sim and he married Blair Wainwright. The first two children were redheads (Susan being Blair's mother and a redhead. Blair is blonde and her husband had brown hair). So the red hair clearly came from the Grandmother. Thus it appears that is a part of EA's system, which is pretty impressive if you're honest :D

Missy_Hissy - Let's not forget though that by default there is a 15% chance that a newborn will pick up a random hair color independent of other genetics. Although with two red haired grandchildren, I would say you may have something there. :)

I had thought of that too. Maybe a combination of them both?
Or Blair isn't a real blonde:P

15% chance of random hair color?? Is it like that in real life? That’s too high... is there any way we can lower that??

I believe this mod does away with the hair color mutations in favor of more thorough blending.
