Pool Parties...push to swim?

Post by JohnL83 » January 7th, 2019, 12:08 pm

Is there some way to get your sims to actually swim at pool parties? I find this so annoying. I mean we can invite others to get into the hot tub but not the pool? This particular family all have the LR for parties and hosting parties and they've had other very successful parties, but darned if I can ever get sims to swim! (this party was "successful" too, even though everyone pretty much just stood around in a group and fought for the same toilet even though there are 6 other bathrooms!) I have the party always in the heat of the day, always during summer so it's nothing to do with that.

I've had one or two pool parties where many of the sims actually swam, but it's so very rare! In fact I can only remember two over the last year that I had most of the sims in the pool. One was especially memorable because the pool was so packed with sims (I actually counted 16 in the water, out of 24 at the party) a sim drowned cuz she couldn't get out! Poor thing. She was someone who crashed the party that my sims barely knew so she stayed dead. LOL Anyway, I'm not sure anyone can help with this, but I thought it would be worth the ask.

I don't know... It's probably worth trying to change the need for fun increase when sims swim in the pool. Although I'm pretty sure if it were the other way around, you'd come here to complain about the cemetery being overrun by drowned.

I've seen this complained about many times but I never remember the answer I get when I ask this -- can anyone in the active household get things started by using Swim Here With to get them into the pool or does that command only work on the open water? Or, come to think of it, does it require the NRaas GoHere mod?

Most of the time I can't get sims OUT of the pool! LOL I've had pool parties and I've seen sims in the pool. Would it help, just for that party period to increase the fun level in the Advertised Output in Retuner for Swim here or any of the other swim activities? Not in game at the moment but just a thought. Also, while at the party, does it work to click on the water and get options like hold breath contest etc.

Pool Parties...push to swim?

Stuff that seems to have helped me in this regard:
  • Put out pool floats
  • Have at least two diving boards
  • Have the Sim who threw the party be near the pool when guests arrive
Regarding that last point, when party guests arrive, they tend to flock to wherever the host is. I've had half a dozen guests try to crowd into a small bathroom when a hosting Sim didn't finish their shower before the guests turned up. So having the host near the pool seems to increase the chances a party guest will notice the pool is there and decide to use it.

If none of that works, maybe try only inviting Sims with the Loves to Swim trait to your pool parties. :-)

Thanks Tropical Insomniac, I do have 2 Diving boards and I always make sure the person who invited everyone is near the pool, but I don't have the pool floats which is a good idea. IDK they just don't often seem to want to swim and this is my 4th pool party over the last few weeks were no one swam! I may be inviting too many people too, but I rarely have more than 20 over at a time.

Igazor - I can't remember either and I tried to search for the other posts I'd seen on this subject and even Googled the problem. Found many complaints though and suggestions I'd already tried.

Littlelambsy - I often can't keep my own sims out of the pool any other time, but when I throw a pool party that is when no one swims! LOL So strange...

Sara_Darkees - The fun factor for swimming is already set pretty high by default and my sims often swim autonomously and I even have people swimming at other gatherings. It's just that I rarely get anyone in the pool if I throw an actual "pool party"
And no I wouldn't complain about sims drowning if everyone swam. I would just reset the sim who was trying to get out and couldn't. I've saved a few sims this way at the public pool. I've only lost the one sim I mentioned that way.

Oh yeah, of course. At the beginning of the party, guests always come exactly where the host of the party is at the moment. Always irritated and at the same time amused by the situation when you're almost done with snacks and going to go to a place where there should be a party, but these idiots came decided to gather in a cramped kitchen. Thanks to them that they do not break into the bathroom, although who knows what they are capable of. So let the party host himself first jump into the pool, about ten minutes before the start. Perhaps in this case, other sims will follow that suit.
