Homeless sims aging weirdness

Post by Elanorea » November 27th, 2018, 7:10 am

Posted about this on MTS as well, but something strange I've noticed is that some homeless sims seem to lead exceptionally long lives. They age normally up to elder, but then just won't die of old age. At that point I'd only taken note of two cases, but then I got curious and checked my town's population with Master Controller, and turns out I have 25 Sims over the age of 100 (with a 79-day lifespan). And all of them are either homeless or service sims (the oldest resident sim is 99).

Now, I know that on normal lifespan, there is only a 14% chance per day to die after reaching the maximum lifespan, so sims could theoretically live indefinitely... but it still seems fishy. The oldest was 217 days old, which means he would have had to dodge death 138 times in a row - that's an infinitesimally small chance! And there was another 200+ day old, and over 10 sims in the 150-199 range.

Just for an experiment, I moved some of them into a household, and suddenly they start dropping - I played for a few days, and every day there was at least 1 death. Is there some difference to how death from old age triggers for homeless vs resident sims? Should I create a retirement home and move them in with cheats so I don't end up with an army of 200-year-olds running around town?

As per a prior thread, you are not using NRaas StoryProgression but rather AwesomeMod's StoryMode for progression. SP is the mod in this collection that handles aging. Thus I believe what you are seeing is a conflict between Awesome's aging manager and Overwatch.

What to do about it, I am not certain. As a last resort, you could use MC to force kill or TA the homeless NPCs who are far above their life expectancies. Perhaps other AwesomeMod users here will have some suggestions as well though.

Another AM issue? Hmm, sometimes I wonder if having it causes more problems than it fixes :D. Still, I've had it so long it's kind of hard to imagine playing without it. It's just a shame it's not really being updated or supported anymore. I've resorted to force killing the undying elders for now.
