Eliminating Elders

Post by littlelambsy » November 5th, 2018, 11:04 am

I've always hated the way elders look and their clothing. I would like to eliminate the elder stage and just have my sims die as adults. I would extend the adult life stage to quite long to absorb the elder years, but  then have them end their life in the adult stage. Is there a way to do this?

Eliminating Elders

Hi littlelambsy

I agree but afraid I do not have a work-around for you.  I've always disliked the way EA made their elders look. My guess would have been a ten year old created them as at that age anyone over thirty was old.  I am an elder and I always found the way elders appeared in the Sims to be offensive, i.e hunched over, sucking their teeth, or lack of them.

Some time back we had a thread going on this very topic and I found and posted links to sliders that allowed us to completely change the way elders were presented.  I will see if I can find those.  Re the clothes: there are many adult clothes that work very well for elders.  MC in most cases will let you assign adult clothing to elders.  I am now enjoying playing my elders (I prefer the term "Senior Citizens").

I have to agree with brappl, with some work elders can be made to look young enough to require proof of age for adult venues. That's a bit much for me, but it's not necessary to have them instantly transition to the ridiculous way EA makes them look on their own either. Consort's Age mod from MTS also helps them ease into the transition gradually no matter what they will look like eventually so that the changes aren't quite so jarring.

I can't think of any way to totally eliminate a TS3 life stage.

I love my elders and would never dream of parting with them. Have you ever tried gathering some up and sending them to Uni to learn something new and terrorize the younger students?

Eliminating Elders

Brappl, I remember that posting with slider, in fact, I think it was one of my postings about the appearance of "Senior Citizens". I remember the posting got quite big with lots of idea. But, in the end, I still didn't like the way they looked.  With EA they seem to go from mature adults (40-50) to  old and decrepit in one day, and look like 100.+  I'll check out the clothing options as well. Thanks :)

Igazor, LOL  I like that idea.  I love the elders as well, but I don't like their appearance and I've tried all the slider options and they still look "bent out of shape".  it seems that a nice figured, mature adult all of a sudden becomes short waisted, flat bottomed, drooped boobs and suckes her gums looking for the teeth she had just a few hours ago!  So, I thought I could end aging at adult stage, slowly make them look older (greyer hair, wrinkles etc) and then just have them die in the adult stage.... but I guess that idea's out.  Unless... I just made elders lifespan 1 day and then they die (from the shock of their sudden body change LOL)  Thanks for the link, I'm going to check it out..

LOL and I thought I was alone in this!  My mother is 74 and doesn't look anywhere near as terrible as sim elders. She even even allowed her hair to be white which everyone agreed becomes her.  Sometimes my elder sims look sorta okay, but most of the times the transformation is so ridiculous you can't even recognize them. IRL this usually isn't the case unless they've had terrible health issues or are in their late 90's!
I have my sims adult lifespan highest of all of the lifespans and then when my sims get close to the transition stage I sprinkle in some gray highlights. So my elders have the shortest lifespan (50) next to babies (10) and toddlers (35) since IMO sim elders look like nursing home patients and sadly by that time there's not too much time left for most people. I did have a great grandmother live to 105 though and she was only in the home the last 5 years of her life!
I do enjoy some of the interactions though. I've had my elder males attack with cane and stuff cuz it's funny. When I was a kid we had a neighbor who did that. He'd shake his cane at us and tell us to keep our ball in our own yard! "you whippersnappers!" :P

Thanks JohnL83, its nice to kow we're not alone. I've never played elders with canes, but after reading your comment I'm going to give them canes and watch what they do with it.  I work in the medical field and have had elders in wheelchairs rev up and get some speed then hold their cane out in front of them when chasing someone down the hallway, that's pretty funny, unless your the one being chased LOL

I second this! It's great! I sometimes have trouble differentiating elders from adults using this mod but when the elders do eventually age it's very gradual and realistic. :-)

Edit to add:
@littlelambsy: You can set inactive elders to be given a cane automatically in Story Progression.  :-)

City Hall > NRaas > Story Progression > General Options > Options: Money > Options: Fees and Support >
Purchase Canes
  • Whether to purchase canes for inactive elders, and add them to their inventory
  • Default: True
  • Module: Money StoryProgression

Thanks Sarah, I'll add this mod to my collection.  You said you find it difficult to distinguish adults from elders, does that mean their body shape alters gradually as well?

Yes, it does. It also gradually alters their walk style too. When you try it, you'll love it! ;-)
