Placing Lots... why must they always land backwards?

Post by ladybarefeet » July 17th, 2016, 2:04 am

Is there any clever way to deal with placing lots so that they land the right way in the first place? I can never tell which is the FRONT RIGHT of it so that I can put my building where I want it. Its driving me bonkers as I am working in a town that needs lots of upgrades.

It must be part of the hidden core engine that makes sims leave their homes when you click on their house to visit them. ALL the time.

I'm sure underpaid EA employees built this in! Some highly encrypted algorhithm that assumes what the player probably wants to do and does the exact opposite. They all got fired or left for better paying jobs but the secret code remained!

/ end of ghost story ;)

I think Consort is on to something there, lol.
That has been driving me nuts forever and never figured out a way to outsmart it. I use a lot of large CC lots with lost of furnishings and it's a royal pain the the butt when they have to be rotated.

One recently took 4 minutes to rotate! And I had to do it twice. There is no way to make sure you set a lot down facing the way you want it to I guess, I've tried everything I know of to figure out the orientations of it.

I don't know if this will help, as a quick google search suggests that it can be a little flaky. But would the 'set front of lot' cheat help? If you use on the empty lot, before trying to place the new lot at least you would know which edge should be the front. Of course it wouldn't help if the lot you're placing was built back to front.

Just in case you've not used the cheat before. Hold down ctrl + shift, click on the ground of the lot, near the edge that you want to set as the front. The option to set it as the front of the lot should appear. I'm not in game so I can't check and I'm afraid I don't remember but you may need testingcheatsenabled set to true to get the option to appear.

Hi kimlupai .. I've used that cheat when in a live game on the lot that has already been placed but never thought of using that before placing the actual building when in build mode. Thanks :)

Sorry, I did not explain myself correctly. I was thinking of being able to manipulate the building placement while in Edit Town rather than placing the lot and then using the cheat. Sometimes I'm trying to put a lot with a building in a different position and have to accept the lot and go back in to rotate.
