Nothing beats an old fashioned news group or forum for conversation.
Big agree on that. I have been shy for a better part of my life but I did learn to "talk" to people though forums. And now when I love this kind of conversations there are no places left... Btw, I still haven't got any response from the germans.

I could not edit my post so I add this here instead: No, I did never receive any answer to the mails I sent to the staff of the german forum. So now I won't care about them. To bad it looked so nice. Following this thread I have come to understand that the players of today do hate forums where it's possible to just sit and chat about the game (and maybe share a pic or two) in a calm and relaxed manner. Everything just have to be so super trendy, flashy and with a layout that make it just impossible to find anything... (I could go on about this but I stop here). So I give up the search for a new forum. :|

I don't think that's a very fair conclusion, given how many responded here with shared disappointment at the options available out there. What players want isn't necessarily reflected in the kinds of online spaces we're able to curate anymore, which is either in the hands of social media companies or requires the time and money to host a site yourself.

It's not the fault of the communities themselves. The modern internet is just a sub-par place to hang out.

Sorry, I just wrote how I feel about it all. My intention was not to hurt the feelings of anyone. "Hate" is a very strong word and I know it should be used in a better way... Oh well, my bad. What I wanted to say is that I have not seen any suggestions for a forum to join as there do not seem to be any. It's not your fault, it's the internet who don't want any forums in 2024. Sorry if I did express myself wrong. Oh well, I will leave this now. If you happen to know a good forum to join, please tell me. I won't search as there is nothing to find...

I have an inkling to start a Sims forum - or even more general life simulation game based forum for future Paralives etc. too - of my own, inspired by this thread... (Not saying I will, but it does tempt me...) I'm a hardcore forum stan, and would love to support this form of social internet culture to still keep flourishing. Let's slow the social media hassle down!! Who's with me?!

I have thought the same, I just have too many existing projects to promise something like that in any reasonable timeframe. I'd love to do it even, but that's a year or two down the line kind of talk. Tying up all my CC work comes first, but it's never a bad thing to have a starting point to jump from.

Whenever you want something specific and it isn't being done, the answer is indeed to do yourself. Bake your cake and eat it too ;)
But the investment of time and money aren't luxuries many of us can commit to on a whim, and so becomes a self-answering question of why it hasn't been done already by someone else.

Hello, everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm considering opening up a forum at my site, since the EA HQ site is such a dud (which I suspected it would). I don't know if it's feasible, but let's see how it would go. If anyone's interested, let me know.

I don't think people hate forums. I think what happened is that the younger generation isn't aware of them. They only know Reddit or social media. This is the thing I hate the most about Web 3.0. In Web 2.0, everyone knew about all the options available but then in Web 3.0, it became Big Fish Eats Little Fish, where the big platforms swallowed up or drowned out the smaller ones.

I think there is growing awareness, though, because I've been hearing a lot of nostalgia about "the good old days" on YouTube and Reddit, where people are talking about how much they missed forums and everything, so who knows? Maybe we'll be returning to them soon.

ETA: Part of the problem, too, is that so many people are on smartphones, and forums aren't as easy to post on through a smartphone as a social media app.

This looks interesting. What sort of forum do you plan? One for technical/gameplay related issues (like this one and AE Answers HQ), for small talk or both?

Hopefully, one that would be a spiritual ancestor to the one being ditched at The Sims 3 site, where people could casually chat about gameplay.
