Another Homeschool Homework Issue

Post by Calista_Drake » July 6th, 2020, 9:19 pm

I have SP set to give all schools the entire summer off. My teens are homeschooling. Summer started on Sunday, and it's now Wednesday. They didn't bother going to the library on Monday to submit their homework, because there wasn't supposed to be school. Then I got the message that their grades were docked because they didn't turn in their homework on time. So Tuesday morning they went to the library to submit their homework, but there was no option to download homework on the computers, and they didn't get docked. So on Wednesday morning, they did not bother to go to the library, and I got the message their grades were docked because they didn't submit their homework on time.

What is going on here? Are they supposed to be downloading homework even though school is not in session or not? They definitely have lost performance, so it's not like when the school bus comes in the summer for kids enrolled in the town school, then bumps them off and leaves because there's no school. Their grades really are being docked.

Most of this is to be expected. Homeschooled sims do not get to take time off when school is closed for vacations or holidays. Sometimes I make corrections for that with MC after they get docked the School Performance points.

The only part I would find unexpected is not being able to upload/download homework on Tuesday. Might this have been happening right around 10 am sim time, when the prior day's assignment was still considered due, or just after when it might have by then been stale? If that makes no sense, and it probably doesn't, I would have to say that unless your sims snuck off to City Hall and turned in their homework in person while you weren't watching then something went a bit wrong that day and for whatever reason turning in an assignment just wasn't required.

LOL! My sims can't sneak off on their own, because they're on low free will. It was around 9 AM that they arrived at the library, the same time as usual. I checked the computer menu over very carefully, and the download homework option was definitely missing. Besides, they didn't get their homework docked even though they didn't turn it in.

My teens have never gotten docked for not turning in their homework on holidays, and homeschool is among the selections to give them summers off. I checked it, and I did have it turned it off.

I took care of the issue by having the girl enroll in high school. The boy is going to age up on Thursday, and I want to give him that one last chance to bring his grade back up before he does. The girl's performance was reset to C, but she'll have plenty of time to get it back up.

Okay to be fair I may not have been remembering exactly what happens over summer break myself. It's been a while, i guess.

But on the sim who needed one last chance to bring his grades up, you do know that homeschooled sims can do and get credit for multiple assignments turned in on the same day? Or at least mine do. How much that matters might depend on how much school performance you grant per assignment. If it's a really low amount and they would have to do 20 assignments in two days to catch up, then of course never mind that idea!

Oh, yeah, I forgot about the extra credit. I didn't change the default, so whatever that is, is what I have. I do know that it only takes a few days to bring up the grade, as my sim children and teens usually have an A by the end of their first week of school, if they finish all of their homework. He has a low B at this point, and I think if he misses his deadline, he'll drop to a C. So I'm going to make sure he gets his homework in, in the morning, and let it go at that. He has other things to do that are more important than finishing with an A.

It doesn't look like homeschooling supports summer off so that's normal behavior. The interaction not appearing on the computer is another ordeal. It looks like that should only occur if the computer is broken, doesn't have a chair or if it's a laptop, it can't find a surface to put it down on.

Chain-Reaction They were the computers at the library, so they were fully accessible and had all of the other interactions available. I guess it must have been a one-time glitch. At least they didn't get their grades docked. Thanks for you help, both of you.
