I've been away from the game for a while so I've pretty much forgotten what qualifies as normality with a lot of stuff. Something that concerns me is that both of my sims who hold lvl 10 positions in Business and Cooking only work 3 very short shifts each week.

My Power broker sim only works three 3 hour shifts per week. Seems a little low to me. Similarly my 5-star chef only works three 4 hour shifts and earns quite a bit more because of that.

Just think its strange and possibly abnormal that my sims work only 9-12 hours a week. Is that correct?

Well nevermind that. Apparently this is correct according to the official career timetables. Still think it's odd that a lvl 9 career pays double that of the lvl 10 position in the same career. I get that there is a significant work hour disparity, but only 9 hours a week?
