Where do I turn down the critique aspect of this trait? I want my sim to be a bit of a snob and I don't mind a bit of the critique action, but seriously that's all my sim wants to do and they have tons of other likes and abilities! (it's the Knowitall family - cute huh?- so they are 10's at every skill and have everything the game can give a sim) Where would this be located and can I just lessen how often it occurs?

I've been looking into this, John. I've found a couple of settings that Retuner can reach that might help you out, but I'm really not sure.

Code: Select all

Sims3.Gameplay.ActorSystems.TraitFunctions+CritiqueArt,Sims3GameplaySystems;kPercentNegativeReactionAvantGardeCritique;65;;;;
Sims3.Gameplay.ActorSystems.TraitFunctions+CritiqueArt,Sims3GameplaySystems;kPercentOfTimeToGetFeelingImportantDuringAvantGardeCritique;65;;;;
There are about a dozen other settings Retuner can access that relate to AvantGarde, but I'm pretty sure none of them are what you're looking for.

I can't remember, do you know how to make tuning mods? If so, I can post a list of about 30 xml and itun files that mention Avant Garde. I haven't gone through them to see if any of them have settings that might do what you're looking for.

Tropical Insomniac I don't know how to make tuning mods, but thanks for looking into this. I will see what I can do with what you've found out and see if that changes anything. They still do it far too often at all around the house. I may just remove the trait if it doesn't work and just use the Snob trait instead, but while I want them to be kinda snobby, the "snob" trait isn't really right.

I'm actually basing this sim couple and their toddler daughter on a gay couple I know. These two guys really do seem to know everything, they have amazing jobs, they are very fit, extremely well traveled and have an opinion on just about every little thing, yet they are also still very likable and kind. I've told them they remind me of a cross between the 80's Yuppies, 60's hippies and millennial hipsters, but in a good way! LOL You would think they'd be really pretentious, but they are not in the least!

If you're interested in learning to make tuning mods, this is the tutorial I learned from. I'm still pretty new at them myself, though for me the most difficult part is finding the settings that control what I want to change. (I wrote a simple script to help me hunt for settings, but it's a lot less precise than the method I use to hunt for Retuner settings.)

That's a cool story. I like your positive perspective on traits that would typically be considered negative.

Tropical Insomniac - thanks for the link. I read though the tutorial and I actually think it's something I could do. Eventually. :|

Cool. I hope you're able to customize your game like crazy in the near future. :-)

You also don't have to start completely from scratch. If someone already made a tuning mod that almost does what you want, you can often tweak it to do exactly what you want.

What is exactly the tunning needed to disable the critiqueArt autonomous interaction? I not understand the answers here, is really stupid and annoying this interaction.

If you have Retuner you can change this under
Settings -> By Tunable XML look for

Code: Select all

Sims3.Gameplay.ActorSystems then
TraitFunctions then
CritiqueArt
Default is this change the 65 to 0
<kPercentNegativeReactionAvantGardeCritique value="65">
<!--Range: 0 - 100 Description: Percent of the time an avant garde critique turns out negative.-->

this second one, is not important I think; but you can set this to 100? So the sim gets the buff longer or to 0 too.
<kPercentOfTimeToGetFeelingImportantDuringAvantGardeCritique value="65">
<!--Range: 0 - 100 Description: Percent of the time an avant garde sim gets feeling important buff while doing a critique.-->

And I don't know, maybe if your sim has this trait you can click on another sim
(you need to enable "Show Object Menu" option under cityhall Retuner)
nraas -> Retuner -> and look for something like critique, open and under advertised change the 200 for avant garde trait to 0.
