Testing Cross-World Career Oppotunities

Recently one of my Sims in the music career got an opportunity to go to Egypt and talk to some locals. When I sent her there, that opportunity dropped immediately. I did some searching and I see that I'm not the only one having this problem. There was an in-depth discussion about it in this thread: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/share/view/82346973
In this thread Chain suggested taking out Traveler and seeing what happens, but the OP decided not to try that and chose to go around the issue using DE. I thought I would try taking out Traveler and see what happened. I thought about posting there but I assumed that resurrecting an old thread would be frowned on.
Anyhoo, I tried taking out Traveler, deleted my cache files (which I always do when adding or removing mods), and I had the same problem. The opportunity still vanished when my Sim got there. Interestingly, the careers panel was still open. I thought that it was the Traveler mod that made the career panel visible on vacation, so I didn't know why it was still open without the mod there. I tried removing Careers and deleting my cache files, just for testing purposes. The panel was still open, saying "Unemployed." I wonder why. Isn't that panel supposed to be closed on vacation by EA Standard? If it's not Traveler keeping it open, then what is?
Also, the OP had noted that when they tried to give the Sim back the opportunity in the vacation world, it didn't work, giving them the message that the Sim didn't meet the requirements. For me, in Egypt after the opportunity disappeared, I found that I could give my Sim the same opportunity back using DE, even though she was now considered "unemployed." However, when I do that, the opportunity panel still says "Go to Egypt," not realizing that the Sim is already in Egypt.
