Functional classrooms in the homeworld university?

Hello,
I just remade art studio for my homeworld University (I added rugs and rooms for them and fully- furnished classrooms). After enroll my sims there they have only "rabbithole lessons" in plan (2 of them). How to make the classrooms functional for the sims to let them going to lectures (active, with a teacher)?
Greetings

Have you got a Student Union building in your town? In the Uni world, the sims go off to the Student Union for the lectures. For the class activities, you'll need the nerd hangout (for the technology) and the library (for the business). The others (to the best of my memory) are around the rabbitholes/rugs. So you'll need to have a STudent Union for the open classes/lectures. :)

Could be misunderstanding, but I think what the OP wants to do is substitute open classrooms for the each 3x week rabbithole classes, not the Student Union type lectures and the weekly activity. This is not possible as it is with Zerbu's Open Careers and High Schools I'm afraid, the 3x week classes do have to be in rabbitholes.

As far as I remember (I was playing on University world long time ago) students needed to go on the lectures (open room with tables, desks and board) to the classes and some subject in the rabbitholes. My problem is that after enroll sims to the university they only have rabbithole activities in plan (2 per day). It is because I didn't do something to activate classrooms or it is just not possible to do?

If I understand well I need to make a lot with student union type and another two (nerd hangout and libary) and it will make sims going to the open-room lectures?

That is correct. On a five-day academic schedule, each class requires 3 days of rabbithole class time one of which is for exams (MWF in Uni World, F for exams, might be different elsewhere) and then 1 day of lecture (Student Union), 1 day of practice activity (Student Union plus the other required lot types) (TuTh in Uni World). But the student lots have to be available for the TuTh types of classes to happen. And of course the days of the week won't match up unless your academic terms always begin on Mondays.

You need to set that up before your sim enrolls in a homeworld university. Once enrolled, the schedule is set and later adding in a lot zoned as a Student Union will not add lectures to the student's schedule.

Aside from a lot zoned for a Student Union, you also need a Nerd Shop for Technology majors, and a University Hangout for Communication majors, and a Library with sufficient room for business majors (most homeworlds have this). In the EA Sims University world the "university hangout' lot is the quad - it basically looks like a park. For a homeworld university I select a small park and zone as a 'university hangout' since the Communications major class activity needs to take place outside. For a Nerd Shop, choose a building without a foundation. In my games, the class activity action will cancel out if the sim arrives at the Nerd Shop on a foundation.

Lastly, students aren't pushed to attend class activities (and perhaps Student Union lectures). You'll need to go to the career tab and click on the button to get them to attend class. They usually get pushed to attend rabbit hole classes.

That's handy to know, thanks. I'd built a nerd hangout on a foundation a few years ago. No wonder the students weren't co-operating!

That's interesting to hear. TBH, I've only tried one Nerd Shop lot on a foundation in a homeworld university. It was an MSR lot which was very small. My Technology major sim would arrive to the lot just fine but the class activity action would cancel out once he arrived inside the building. I found I could direct the sim to the terrain in front of the building, click the button for him to attend class, and he would proceed to whip out his brain machine and complete the class activity without further issue. It seemed to me that the game would not route him off the foundation to use his brain machine automatically though. And that area was possibly the only open space large enough on that lot for him to use.

Sims need to be outside for this class activity, judging by their behavior in Sims University where the Nerd Shop is not on a foundation. I do not know whether the issue I and you observed is that (1) sims need to be on ground level or (2) whether the foundation level of the MSR lot I was using simply wasn't large enough for a sim to go outside and use a brain machine. I've never tested whether a large foundation-level outside patio would work. The MSR lot was too small to expand the foundation to test that. So, I ended using another MSR lot without a foundation and plenty of open terrain outside the building which worked fine. And I've been using that particular lot ever since.

So, I give the advice to avoid a foundation because I know it works and I don't know if the alternative does.

I tried that and if I remember right it didn't work. It seems to be the same problem you can get with the Firefighter Career when houses are on foundations.

That's basically what I found too. I'd built my own on a 30x30 but there wasn't much (if any) space outside (I intelligently put car parking spaces instead. I hadn't initially created it for a Uni but now I wish I had!) and the interaction cancelled out. Similarly, the sim refused to whip the machine out inside the building so that was the end of that. Like you, I noticed they seemed to need to be outside for the activity.

Glad to know it wasn't just me though.
